You're in the position to do the ultimate test and possibly even prove me wrong. Pop the hood on a 2019 X3/4 M40i, the same for 2020, and M340i. Compare the engines. If it looks like 2019, it's the old one. If it's the same as G20, it's the new B58B30O1.

I think that every indication is that it does not. See the recent posts here.
Quote from the BMW Canada Order guide
"The 2020MY X3 and X4 Change Summary:
 2020MY X3 and X4 launch August production with deliveries beginning September 2019.

 All variants receive + $300 base MSRP increase.

 M40i variants receive B58 engine update, now producing 382hp and 369 lb-ft.

 All variants receive standard BMW Live Cockpit Professional and SiriusXM Satellite Radio.

 7M9 High-Gloss Black Kidney Grille with Ext. Contents now available for M Sport and M40i variants.

 Interior Trim program expands with addition of High-Gloss Carbon Fibre option for M40i variants.

 X4 M40i now includes 710 M Sport Steering Wheel as standard equipment"

I have a 2020 BMW X3 M40i on order with confirmed production in week 36! It is definitely getting the updated engine that is currently in the 2020 Z4 M40i (which I currently drive now) and the 2020 M340.

Or: take a valid 2020 X3/4 M40i VIN, plug it into decoder.bvzine.com.

HUGE!! That's positive. Still would love to see something from BMWNA. But BMW Canada is about as close as you can get.

I get it if no X3/X4 were getting it until 2020 calendar year, but here it is...

For me I don't really care about the "live cockpit" vs old digital dash, its more about the tech that ID7 allows, like the drive camera (so don't need a dashcam anymore, thats big) and the remote start (another big thing in winter for me).

Just knowing the car SHOULD have those options and doesn't makes me not want to drop $80K on it. Based on the amount of these the local dealers have I am guessing others are waiting as well, typical X3 buyer might be clueless but I would think a X3M buyer has a little more knowledge and will do a little more research before buying a $80K vehicle.
I don't think the 2020 X3 will have remote start.

+1
I honestly think there should be a retaliatory reaction...one thing is regular depreciation, another is an accelerated depreciation due to these early updates...makes the new 2019 vehicle look outdated already!

No, there is no remote start for the 2020 X3s and X4s. I was really hoping they would ad it but the order guide said in BOLD no remote start.

It used to be quite predictable and they would only upgrade things in the LCI. Now is really unpredictable.

Agreed. Really disappointed about that, I liked the metal buttons in the X7 and thought it was reserved for that model.

Hard to say because this new cluster is launched together with ID7. Not sure if you can use this with the ID6.

Am I the only one who could care less about this new live cockpit with ID7? I like the current instrument cluster in the X3MC...the live cockpit looks down market imho....

Nope, you aren't the only one.
I picked up a '19 X3 M40i because it wasn't a dealbreaker to me between ID6 or 7. I'm coming from an e90 without iDrive, while I have most thing figured out, I'm still trying to get music channel presets in order. Any tech is more than I had before.

That said, I much prefer the look of the '19 exec pack gages versus the '20 pro cockpit.

It'll update again in a few years to another new look. Not worried. By then the revised B58 will have more time in service with problems fixed -or- there will be more performance oriented EV options.

Happens virtually all the time:

MY2017: "old" F25 X3, no new tech from G01
MY2018: no M-sport steering wheel available (despite initial pics showing otherwise)
MY2019: no iDrive 7
MY2020: no ????
MY2021: no LCI features from MY2022
etc....

Any Canadian BMW dealer will have the 2020 X3 & X4 order guides and pricing. BMW Canada likely won't update the website until the 2020 X3/X4s are on ground at all dealers across Canada, so likely mid September.
