I've just found these forums - great reading
I've just installed Nextbase dashcam (reaching fuse box behind glove box was a challenge), replaced damage N/S wing mirror and upgraded software.
next job, satnav update

the crank case vent hose decided to die. I dindt feel like paying fcp euro $50 for a new one (11127584128), so I did the "cut it off, and replace with 3/4 hose" trick

sliced the old hose

(be careful not to slice too far)

then simply tug off the old cracked hose and replace with your 3/4 hose of choice. I forget how many inches I had to cut to make it fit .... 4 inches?

Of all the BMW things that make me scratch my head, this part tops it. The fact that there's not even a coolant drain plug, but just "unplug a hose and clean it up" as the factory method for doing coolant related work...alright. Magical window washing fluid is required, so that the pump doesn't mold up......okay, sure, you got me there, I'm not a scientist

Two clips and some hose on something you will need to disconnect for:
1) plugs
2) Disconnecting the ignition leads when priming the oil after doing the oil cooler and oil filter gaskets
3) Valve cover gasket replacement

Somehow I have yet to remove one without braking it. Just head on down to BMW and pay between $50 and $80 for this thing. I'm going to pick up some 3/4 tubing next time in at the auto parts store.

Ohhh , nice running boards. Love the matched color paint.

I bought a no name eBay running board. On Ebay. No instructions and I didn't want to drill the body.

But the new amplifier sounds very good!

Would really like to hear a review on these. I'm at the point that I need to replace the factory shocks/struts. Not looking to do aftermarket springs, but it seems like replacing the factory springs may be necessary? Some people have reported rear springs failing, and it might be one of those cases where you're already in there, so might as well do it. I'm thinking either:

1) Koni Actives - seems like the closest thing to a dynamic electronically controlled strut/shock combo. The original FSDs had duration issues, but I think the Actives fixed that.

2) Bilstein OE replacements for the sport suspension - Would probably want to pair with the sort spirng, but if springs are being replaced anyways, then no difference. No adjustability, but Bilstein makes some quality shocks/struts. Probably the same sportiness as the Actives, but a lack of softness for potholes and poor road conditions.

I don't think the cost is going to be much different. Either would be much cheaper than parts from BMW.

Replaced my cat today, currently at 98k miles I'm getting P0420 for about a month the old cat and looks like it's clogged. Here is a comparison between old one and the new used one.

Are you sure it's not a bad O2 sensor?

Already replaced both O2 sensor, code still comes back everytime I erase it. From the datastream in ISTA it shows sensor 2(which is the rear one) fluctuate from 0.08-0.7 which points to a bad cat. The data from replacement cat shows very steady voltage on sensor 2.

Looks like it hasn't been running clean for awhile. I've seen many cats with double the miles that looked cleaner than that.

+1 , so many "brittle" things under the hood. I swear BMW is doing it on purpose, as they can easily choose a material that withstands the test of time

oh man, I just discovered over the weekend the joy of "draining" coolant. good thing there was a nearby old blanket I didnt care for, otherwise I woulda had a swimming pool inside my garage

I will post a review once I get a few more miles on them, first impressions are that they are not a huge difference in ride quality from stock but do improve handling slightly. I am coming from stock shocks with 80K miles so it may not be a fair comparison to new OEM shocks.

I recently contacted an old friend to tackle the water pump and tstat job for me. The man has many years of experience with BMW's and was perfect for the task. Per his recommend and the great minds of this forum, also replaced the "mickey mouse" fitting, upper and lower rad hoses, and then drained/filled with new bmw coolant.

He has a clean m3 to boot

and the next door neighbor happens to have a 1jz powered drift car, neat!

"while he was in there", he did the oil filter housing gaskets as well. good thing I had all that stuff sitting in the trunk!

cleaned surfaces for best seal

intake mani removed for max clearance, and of course ... replaced intake mani gaskets afterwards

lastly, belt / idler pulley / bolts / replaced all on the same day. oddly ... fcp euro forgot to send the tensioner, so that sadly will have to be installed on a later date.

I look forward to it. I'd be coming from the same place, 80K miles on the original stuff. I think more people are replacing old/worn out than are swapping out new stuff, so I think the perspective will be great.

Good work. Did the same stuff almost a year ago. It's nice to tackle that on your own terms vs. dealing with it when it fails.

Also did the parts you listed, plus the oil cooler housing gasket, the overflow tank, and the hose from the water pump to the t-stat (is that the micky mouse hose?). Did not do the intake manifold gasket. Did the belt, but didn't do the pully/tensioner. I didn't trust the belt after the oil filter housing and oil cooler leaks, so I just did the belt.

agreed on being preemptive, I figured why wait and be stranded on the side of the road

this was the exact mickey mouse fitting I ordered, I figured it was a good thing to have on deck in case the oem one broke (and surprise surprise, it broke upon removal)
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...e-rein-chc0609

I"ll be doing the tensioner real soon, will share how it goes down (hopefully smooth)

Just did my front diff and transfer case fluid today. Currently at 98K miles both fluid looked really dark. I didn't removed transfer case support bracket to do this job, I used a 14mm wrench and stick it to a hex bit to remove the drain plug. I get the drain plug as tight as I can with my hands then used a 1/2 to 3/8 adapter and put it on torque wrench to tighten it to 60nm.

This is the setup I used to torque down the drain plug on transfer case without removing support bracket.

Update: After transfercase fluid change and diff fluid change car is feeling silky smooth, no more hesitation from first gear to second.
