I am following all the pricing threads related to 2019 x3 M40i deals. Have any readers had particular pricing success with BMW dealers/salespeople in the Pacific Northwest?

Yes. Medford BMW was great. The whole process, including them picking me up at the airport (I flew down from PDX) and the great deal I got. Was totally worth going down there.

Portland BMW was pretty awful. They would not play ball with negotiating very much at all, and I did not feel like they had much respect for me as a customer. Even for service I have been underwhelmed - they said they’d need my car for “at least 3 days” to fix my sunroof rattle, and they couldn’t get me in for over 2 weeks.

Kuni BMW service was able to get me in that week and said they’d need my car for only a few hours. However I had other stuff to do and didn’t end up taking it in, so I can’t comment on service outcome. I also didn’t try buying my M40i there because Medford just happened to have the exact color combo and specs I wanted appear on their lot.

So all in all, I highly recommend Medford BMW.

When I was initially seeking best offers from PacNW dealers, I found Spokane and Salem BMW Dealerships, who are both Lithia Dealers, to be the most receptive; Medford might also be part of that group but I didn't contact them. I wanted to "build" my X3 and decided on Salem since I work there.

Felt like Portland x 2 gave me the "little lady" treatment, so they were out . Happy to be dealing with Brian Kimmerle at BMW of Salem.

PNW dealers are the worst. While shopping for a 340i I barley got more than 2.5% off MSRP. I tried Seattle, Bellevue, Portland, and all other BMW dealerships in these areas.

Finally went out of state for a custom order, and got a great deal without any negotiating.

I recently ordered a 2019 X3 M40i through BMW of Bellevue, WA. Brian Liu is my salesperson. I did not get any pressure of any kind to buy unnecessary or unwanted features like pinstripes, pulse brake lights, mud flaps, wheel locks, etc.

I ordered an almost-fully-loaded model. The overall discount is $3166 off MSRP, but I went through Costco so I don't know if they will extend that discount to everyone. The Costo discount page is available here.

WA dealers

I sent email to all 5 WA dealers specifying my desired 2019 X3 M40i with MSRP of $66,765. I suggested a 6% discount, which comes in at about dealer invoice.

Got one offer at 2.8%, one suggested could only do 2%, 1 hasn't replied, 2 others replied but no offer yet. I only sent these out yesterday, so maybe I'll still get something worthwhile. Doesn't look promising.

I live north of Seattle, so am a little reluctant to explore Oregon dealers, but that may become necessary. Trying to avoid the complication of having to reregister in WA after buying in Oregon.

I don't qualify for any of the special BMW discounts, loyalty, right company, whatever. I used Costco for one dealer, but that's no big deal. May just have to wait for better time of the year.

The Costco discount is about 4.7% off MSRP which is pretty close to your desired 6% discount. Also, if you have previously owned a BMW then the Costco deal gives an additional $1000 off MSRP. I am a first-time buyer, so I am not eligible for that discount.

As someone who bought in OR and registered in WA, it was really easy. They give you a temp OR registration and then mail paperwork to the WA vehicle licensing office of your choice. Then you just show up and sign some docs.

You got that right. I think the dealers realize the money that’s up here especially the Seattle and Portland areas that they’re going to get as much as they can from you.

Is that 4.7% all straight discount, or is some of it contingent on using BMW financing?

Thanks for that. It may be necessary to go there.

I believe you still have to pay sales tax in WA if you buy out of state. If you are financing, do you have to pay for the sales tax yourself, or can you finance out-of-state sales tax?

When I look at the Costco discount page, BMW offers for X3, I see $1500 if you use BMW financing, and only $500 if you use your own. What am I missing?

In other forums buyers have stated that they received up to 15% off msrp with all discounts, rebates and incentives. Anyone getting close to this?

The regular Costco discount is $1666
The additional Costco discount for a first-time buyer is $500, if you don't use BMW financing, but you can get $1500 off if you use BMW financing.
Finally, the dealer gave me an additional $1000 off MSRP

The total for me, as a first-time buyer, is $3166 discount.

One other thing... the coupon I linked is in *addition* to the regular Costco discount. Sorry I didn't make that clear.

Yes, it’s true you have to pay WA tax regardless of where you buy the vehicle. I am leasing, not financing, but they just add the tax to the monthly payment. I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to do the same with financing.

I believe 15% off MSRP are for those who've ordered a 2018 model or

have placed a 2018 model but due to BMW part shortages, they were promised the same deal on the 2019 model.

Are you talking about 2018 or 2019 built?
