Anyone else's mirror caps look like this?..

When I got the car in 2018 it had just a little bit of this but it's gotten progressively worse and nothing seems to take it off. Swirl remover, clay bar, other polishes, nothin'. I don't know what it is and I don't believe it's rust because it's plastic but it sure is annoying seeing it every day!

A pic or two would help. It could be rust deposit but they usually cleanup easily.

Is it on both mirrors or just the one? From the pic, it looks like it has been poorly painted, with contaminates in the finish. Probably needs a good sanding and respray.

Look more than rust particles. I had some on my MKX at sale time but not as much and concentrates as this.

I use Meguiar's 205 with a microfiber cloths. Might want to try that before respraying.

Not cheap: https://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-Mirr...1124670&sr=8-1

There is a 8 oz version for less.

It is on both mirrors! That's what I've thought and been afraid of. New caps might be cheaper, they're $265 from bmw https://www.shopbmwusa.com/product/3...MIRROR-CAP-SET (except i don't know if these are 'matte silver' but they definitely arent alpine white..)

Thanks! I'll definitely give anything a shot before respraying or buying new ones.
I'm just stumped on what it could be, the cars been in California its whole life, and half of it was in a SF parking garage..

I am in UK and a couple of years ago we had a similar problem only ours was on a silver 3 Series, It was put down to immissions from a factory that had a problem and it was Grinding particles that were emmited as dust out of the extractors.
I don't know if you have any factories nearby but it looked exactly the same as that.
