Centre Console

Hi everyone
Does anybody have a video to show how to remove the center console between the front seats and to remove the I-drive controller. Need to clean sticky keys on it. Then also how to remove the "P" park button/lever.

Thanks
Victor

I don't think you really mean you want to remove the center console, which is the entire structure between the seats. To access the iDrive controller you just need to remove the decorative top panel - wood or whatever yours is. Luckily, that piece is as easy to remove on an X3 as any car in existence. No screws - just clips. Take a plastic trim pry tool and pry up at the back end of it by the center armrest. Once you pop up the rear clips it just lifts up and back.

l have used a product from CRC, electrical contact cleaner to free up sticky buttons in the I drive controller. l believe most auto parts stores sell a version of it, comes in an Aerosol spray with the small tube similar to WD-40. Sprayed a small amount between the button and the housing with success. After spraying did rock the switch back and forth a couple of times and let it set. after a couple of hours switch works like new.

I use that stuff all the time as a degreaser for small areas or parts - it dissolves oil and grease to nothing but harms no surface. It will take grease off clothing too. I had never tried it on anything like spilled coffee or soft drinks but I can see how it would work. OP, you can liberally flood your iDrive controller with it. It just flashes off and will evaporate quickly even if your controller is dripping with it. Get eh fast evaporating kind, which is usually easier to find. They make another version that evaporates more slowly, and it smells bad too.
