2017 BMW Heated Steering Wheel Activation
Hi, documenting my Progress active the Heated Steering Wheel in my X3.
My car was sold with the warm weather package as a result it did not receive the heated steering wheel option, after removing the air bag from the M Sport Wheel I discovered the wheel had the heating eliminates and controller. YES!! So I needed to order the heated switch and lower steering Column cover. 61319237941 (steering column lower trim panel) 61319267365 (heated steering wheel push button) Discovered I could do the following programming with Bimmercode which I have done.
Also some additional information useful for interpretation of the above values:
I'll add pictures soon. At this point the light on the switch lights up, but the wheel doesn't get warm, nor do I have an indicator in the gauge cluster that it is active. I suspect from some limited research I have to do the follow: (found on another site) 0) Read the FA from the car and save it to a file. 1) Edit the FA to add the 248 code, save changes, calculate FP and save the FA (to the file above), not write to the car. 2) Activate the FA. 3) Read SVT (... 4) Right-Click then CODE the following ECUs, one at a time, in this order: FRM, ICM, JBBF, KOMBI. 5) Disconnect from the car. If the dealer should ever over-write my changes, I would Load the FA from the file updated in 1 above and re-code the four ECUs listed above. |

Who orders a warm weather pkg in Canada?
I have the the cold weather pkg with heating steering wheel and there's no indication in the cluster when I turn it on, only the LED on the switch, which i can't see while driving It' a 2011, maybe the cluster indication was added on later years? Maybe the ambient temp needs to be below a certain value before the wheel will heat up, I don't know I never tried turning it on when it's warm outside? When retrofitting options, I add the option number to the VO/FA, then code the appropriate modules, that way the modules get the correct coding for that option number. |

I have a 2016 X3 with NBT and I don't have an indication in the cluster when the steering wheel heater is on. Only the LED indicator on the button. Perhaps they added a indication in the cluster with NBT Evo...not sure.

Coding for Heated Steering Wheel (HSW)
I have read several posts on coding the heated steering wheel, but I have never seen a step by step documentation of the process.
For the record, I have verified that I have the heated element in my steering wheel, and the accompanying wire harness. I have added the HSW switch, which activates the indicator in the instrument panel. The switch itself does not light up, and the steering wheel does not heat. I have the Bimmercode app, and a bluetooth connector. Does anyone have coding instructions tailored for a novice? I accessed the expert function in Bimmercode, but did not see the correct options. |

Having issues? 2016 X4.
Bought a new wheel. Column light switch works but not getting a warning in the instrument cluster. VO coded 248 into every module possible. Well the heating is not working on the wheel. Not sure what to do now. |

Would love to figure this one out as well. My '17 X3 is the "Hot Climate Version", but I do have heated seats and M-Sport wheel.
Seems like if you have any of the driving assistant packages, the wheel will also include the heating element. Sadly, I do not Don't think it's worth taking the wheel apart to find out, but I would love to retrofit this someday. |
