Weird tire wear on my rear tires, any ideas?
So the center of both my rear tires had some serious wear. Stock run flats. Can't take pictures as it is at the shop having the tires replaced now but has anyone else had this issue? What would cause this? Could my run flats have been over inflated? My system didn't give me any tire pressure errors.
Any ideas? |

Over-pressure will cause this type of wear. What did the folks at the shop have to say?
It could be that after tires were over-inflated that the tire pressure monitering system was initialized/re-set, in that event the system would not flag any issue unless the tire(s) pressure changed significantly at some future time. |

I don't think the system warns about over inflation. So not sure about the TPMS comment. EDIT: seems some systems to detect over inflation. Not sure about the BMW TPMS though. https://mycardoeswhat.org/safety-fea...toring-system/ Last edited by omasou; 10-19-2018 at 09:55 AM.. |

OP: the TPMS can be 'coded' to display each tire's pressure (psi) on the TPMS readout screen. Something you might look into.
I will say however, I did this coding on my car and the units of measure (psi) were displayed but no actual accompanying values shown. I did not pursue how to resolve this; not that big a deal as I check my tire with a manual gauge somewhat regularly. If anyone here has the solution on what needs to be done to get the actual pressures to readout on the system let me know....I'm all ears. I'm thinking OP reset the TPMS right after tires were pumped up (to excessive pressure) and therefore the system viewed his higher fill pressure as 'normal'. |

When you change the pressures I'd suggest not only getting them closer to the recommended settings (check sticker when opening driver's door), but also see and remember what they are now. Most gauges aren't highly accurate but will be close enough.
It's a "just in case" there's actually another issue. Highly likely they are simply over-inflated but report back with what you find. |
