Turbo & cooling upgrade options... what are your thoughts/experiences??

Would love to hear from those that have gone down (or started down) the path to upgrading their B58TUs.

I tend to do intial upgrades then enjoy my vehicle for a while before getting the itch to do more. Been driving down the rabbit hole the past few days and some initial plans have started to form. Looking for some constructive feedback on what components I should consider. Here's where I'm at so far:

Vargas GC+ or Pure850:

https://x-ph.com/vargas-vtt-bmw-supr...8aAkfGEALw_wcB

https://www.pureturbos.com/product/b...eries-pure850/

CSF Intake Manifold & 4 piece cooling kit:

https://x-ph.com/csf-charge-air-cool...UaArOMEALw_wcB

https://x-ph.com/csf-four-piece-race...caAmStEALw_wcB

Other manifold options:

https://www.urotuning.com/products/w...8aAqC_EALw_wcB

https://shopprojectgamma.com/product...44168513388763

BMS Elite Charge Pipe/BOV:

https://x-ph.com/burger-tuning-bms-e...saAqQOEALw_wcB

Initial thoughts? I'm not familiar with turbo companies but it seems like the package options for Vargas are better and there's more supporting data. I'm leaning more that way.

For the intake manifold(s), same as above with CSF. The other two options look interesting (slightly cheaper) but with little data to be shown. Do like the option of port injection also.

Not totally sold on a BOV... the 16 yo kid in me still thinks they're kinda cool but the 38 yo me wants to roll his eyes a bit. Either way, a charge pipe upgrade will need to be done.

Biggest unknown for me are the fuel pump options. I'd like to be in the 600-650whp range, but can the stock fuel pump/injectors in the TU engine keep up with that? I'm aware of Dorch and a few other companies that make some better pumps, but I'm curious as to what other's have experienced.

Other peripherals including spark plugs, ignition coils, flex-fuel analyzer, and oh... sending the DME to be unlocked will be done. Driveshaft/axle upgrades would potentially be done down the line.

Hit me with your feedback! Anything I've forgotten, or should definitely consider??

Chasing hp is a helluva drug. You'll never be satisfied so might as well add a pure drivetrain solutions transmission to that list!

I'd also look into possibly the turbo coolant auxillary radiator. The M340, Supra, M240, etc. have 2 small radiators up front where the fog lights are.

On the X3 M40i, we only have 1 of these radiators. Would not be hard to punch out the other side. But I believe CSF makes these for the M340 and such. Not sure if those would bolt up to the X3, but these would help with cooling as they are bigger radiators.

I'm fairly certain the two side radiators are on the engine coolant loop, not the intercooler loop. So unless you are having issues with your engine coolant going over target, this may not help much.

Everything on here is good lol its a slippery slope though as others have mentioned. Vargas has a lot of good and bad posts, lol. Pure's have a more reliable history but theyre more expensive (I'm pure800s) and cleaner install from what i've seen.

For cooling mods, as thats my main issue in South FL - high IAT's, i've found the intake manifold the only way i'll be able to address it as theres no aftermarket intercoolers etc. The ones that work on Supra's dont fit on the g01 platform, the tubing positioning etc is different. My tuner and myself have looked thoroughly.

That's why I switched to a front mount intake and still IATs are higher than I'd like. I'm going to be purchasing a Wagner intake manifold soon and it should definitely help a lot. I know CSF makes quality products though so that's a perfect choice.

Charge pipe I've heard a bunch of times that our stock ones are plenty strong, haven't seen any in my area get blown up - but I did replace mine anyway just because it's inexpensive for peace of mind.

Fuel pump with my setup I initially just installed a TU pump and could tell even a Dorch Stage 1 HPFP wouldnt be sufficient so I went with a Dorch HPFP stage 2. This all depends on how aggressive your tune is / e content level etc.
Just make sure you keep an eye on your oil level, and do your regular maintenance. I'm currently doing oil changes every 2.5k and spark plugs every 5k and find a reliable tune/tuner to work with to fine-tune your flash.

Past 650+hp is where we would start worrying about transmission, pistons being sent to the moon, etc. The B58 gen1/gen2 is surprisingly strong. just need to be smart about it.

Yessir, that was one of the links with the CSF intake manifold

Won't have to worry about temps/humidity nearly as much hahaha..

What do you like about the Wagner over the CSF manifold? Obviously almost $2k less helps, but if you're not worried about the money, which one?

I'll have to study some more on the fueling system. What injectors are you running?

Stock injectors, CTS turbo coils and gapped 2 step cold plugs. I've just got a local deal with wagner personally so I get a discount plus its cheaper. As long as it does the job I guess. CSF is quality though.

Hi team,

Sorry for the delay as I’ve been driving like a mad man around the European alps.

As you can see I am 18 living in a 44 year olds shell 😂

I have a 2022 M40i now with a Pure800 tuned on 98 (93 in your land) and I am 108WKW (145hp) up on stock and love it.

I purchased a Gen 2/A90 charge cooler to try and make work but couldn’t make it fit. I’ve already burnt enough $$$ and not going with the manifold. Will be tuning the flex kit when I get home which should add another 30WKW.

If your a modifier, it’s always in the blood. If the bank account allows don’t procrastinate just do. You know you want too!

Cheers from the Domomites

I was under the impression that it was one for the intercooler loop and one for engine oil cooling. :|

Has there been new news from Mission? I've been debating sending mine off to Europe as well (and getting a clone) but still not that comfortable sending my DME overseas.

Totally get what you're saying, but they've done so many unlocks and I haven't heard a shred of negative feedback about them. Seems like they're legit. I'm just waiting because it's my daily lol

Their shipping times are also really fast now, not like during covid when they were like 2-3 week turnaround. Think they're less than 10 days, and I swear I heard someone got theirs back in 4-5 days.
