xDrive 20i Owners?

Hi guys!

I've got a couple of questions for the X3 xdrive 20i owners here:

Is the 20i engine good enough for the X3?
Does it pull the car easy enough or does it struggle with the weight of the car?
What about fuel consumption you're getting?

Need ur help deciding...
Thanks

Hi,

I recently had a 20i loaner while my 30D was being serviced. To be honest for day to day commuting it's probably all that is really needed. I was actually impressed as I had very low expectations. It's really as much power as most people need on an everyday basis. That said, although it doesn't struggle the pull the X3 (its's a BMW, they don't make a bad powertrain) you get to experience it's limitations quite fast (slower overtakes, weedy sound...). It really depends on your driving preferences but if you value a more relaxed, slightly un-involving but comfortable drive and can get a great deal then I think you will be pleasantly surprised and not feel overly short changed. Yes it' s a 4 Cylinder engine pulling a medium to big car but it's a good one. I'm not sure if the 20d is available in Tunisia but that engine is slightly better suited to the car if you are able to consider a Diesel engine.

If you are on the fence, I would urge you to test drive one though.

I'm driving the 20i since a couple of days now.
Was surprised about the performance.
Good torque (at low speed) and pretty quick on 180 km/h.

Thing is...
Here in the Netherlands (and probably Tunisia) the upgrade from the 20i to the 30i is more then € 13.000!! And it's the same F**** engine...
So for me too much money for more power I don't need.

Engine is really not struggeling at all...
But as Twickers said, getting high in the RPM's makes the engine squirm a little and making that weedy sound.
But fine for me.

It's faster then my former A4 Avant 2.0 !!

If you're buying the 20i yourself, take a look at a decent chiptuner.
As the engine is the same in the 30i, about 70HP and 80NM can be gained easily with the 20i engine...

Yes exactly, the price difference between the 20i and 30i is quite a lot when in fact they are the same B48 engine.
I saw a couple of chiptuners online claiming a 60-70HP increase, making it even better than the 30i for a max of 700€.

Also, I don't usually go fast with my cars, I prefer a more economical car than a thirsty one for daily driving.
But I was thinking about going uphill, a little bit of soft off roading or something that demands some power.

Why not just rent a car for a month out of the year?

The rent is expensive and calculated over a long period (>10 years) it is much cheaper to buy it and sell it later when not needed anymore.
