I've had my X3MC for almost a year. Prior to this I had the F80 M3 Comp (manual). I've noticed many of the same things others have noted (some low-end lag, a tad bumpier than I'd prefer) and I think the overall package is fantastic.
My gas mileage is not bad in my opinion - I usually get 19 combined, and up to 25 on longer highway trips. The M3 would get just a touch more. Maybe I don't drive it as hard as I should? All this being said, I'm definitely interested in the new M3 (ugly grill aside). I still really want a 911 but the price jump for the overall performance and package is hard to overlook. I have 2 years to figure it out when the X3MC lease is up. |

Totaled my F97 comp when another driver ran a red light and upgraded to a F95..If you're in to towing, like me, it's a definite upgrade. Interior space is also more ample. I added a stealth hitch and significantly improved my capabilities.

How's the handling between the 2? I assume the X3M is better but is the X5M much worse?

The X3M is a *slightly* more comfortable version of an M3 and has downsides of more weight and raised center of gravity. It's really a lifted M3. If you want this to be a sporty family hauler, make sure the family doesn't mind an M3 and make sure you don't mind an SUV.
