699M vs 718M Wheels
I'll likely be placing my order for a G01 M40i on Tuesday.
I'm going to include M Sport Plus amongst other options. With M Sport Plus I can swap the 718M with RFTs for 699M with non-RFTs. To my eyes the 699 are more attractive than the 718 even though they are an inch smaller. Along with looks I'm also keen to get away from RFTs after 11 years on them! I read that the RFTs nowadays aren't so much worse in terms on ride and noise and certainly my 2 road tests with them suggest this to be the case. However..in the UK we have a lot of roads with coarse road surfaces which create significant road noise. Does anyone have experience of a G01/G02 setup with RFTs and non-RFTs running on UK-type roads? Ride should be improved with the 699s / non-RFTs due to a more pliable sidewall and I'd expect a lower unsprung weight too.

Congratulations on the order!!!
Not sure I can help with your query. I have 699s on RFT P Zeros. In my previous 330d I changed non RFT and car a lot better. I had planned to change the tyres on my M40i, but, to be honest, they don't feel too bad. I have adaptive suspension which may help. What non RFTs come on the 699s? |

I don't know what tyres come with the 699s other than their width is the same as the 718s and the profile is just 5% higher, I don't know the brand though. The car I will build and the car I tested are both with adaptive. I agree it's not too bad on the 718s but having compared a Macan with PASM on non-RFT 20's I know how good the ride can be.

I had the 699s with the p zero RFT. The ride comfort wasn't bad but I noticed a huge difference when I went non RFT both in comfort and noise level.
My brother has the 718 on RFT with adaptive suspension (I don't have this) and I think it might be a little more comfortable than my current setup with non RFT. Don't think you can go wrong with either. Congrats on the order

I’ve had both. I prefer 20” size wheels on X3, however I really like 718M style. Also, whenever I washed my 699M wheels, forgive me, but all I could see is penises and vaginas. Maybe it’s just me. Ideally, they’d make 718M style wheels in 20” size.

With the 718s I see lobster or crab claws but no dodgy (or is that doggy) innuendo. Edit - I get it now....the wheel brush entering the "V".

Thats' my thinking. I don't believe noise will be any worse and it might be a little better as a bonus.

+1. Very curious to know what these performance tires are. Going for the same option (699M with performance non-rft) in M Sport Plus Package.

Last I have seen had Pirelli’s on, but who knows now, could be Michelin, but I often find tyres can really vary, depending on availability, but suffice to say likely to be better than the RF’s 😂

Don't know about the 718 but the 699 20" are a doddle to clean. 4K of motoring since new and with only a a quick weekly wash using nothing more than a long knit microfibre sponge, car shampoo and water they are still showroom pristine.

The 718's are a royal PITA to clean and to keep clean. It's just the nature of the very porous finish on the 718's that they are like a sponge for any brake dust and road dirt. The 699's, due to their clear coat finish, are immensely easy to clean and to keep clean. |

I find Pirelli's more resistant to any road potholes and generally speaking - more heavyweight. So in it sense means they are more stable.
Bridgestone's are weak, sensitive to any road damages and I would definitely get Pirellis. |

I see now that BMW use paint on parts of their wheels. Having had the 19s on my F25 replaced under warranty I believe they've worked out that clear coat doesn't work on sharp corners - mine all corroded by the BMW roundel where there's a 90 degree corner - this will never hold clear coat well. Hopefully paint in combination with clear coat works better.

Can’t imagine Alenza’s can wear faster than Pirelli’s, but will find out I guess as I have them. Pirelli’s tend to be top performing, but wear faster as a consequence
