Auto Parking Failure

I never use my x3 auto parking feature as I'm always pretty good at parking but my wife loves it for parallel parking and uses it every day without issue. I thought I'd try it out for a bit of fun and it found the space, followed the instructions and then it promptly kerbed and scratched my alloy, pretty annoyed as there was no way of me knowing it was going to do that. Am I best to call BMW or the dealer for compensation or do I have no chance?

depends if you have wheel/tire insurance. ours in the US doesn't cover curb rash, just bent wheels and flat tires. I know porsche covers curb rash in their wheel/tire plan, that's a sick deal.

I think unlikely it'll be covered

That's bad luck. I use the feature from time to time, a it always parked with enough space between the wheels and curb. Sometimes I even correct it to get closer not to stick out from other cars. I doubt that dealer will do anything about it.

My dealer wanted $2,100 for wheel warranty

I believe it is using the vehicles to guide the car, not parking stripes and curbs. So if the vehicles you are parking between are against the curb, the parking assistant will likely curb a wheel.

It's a cool feature, especially perpendicular parking, but I can park faster and better myself.

Well that just confirmed my distrust of the system.

I use it on a daily basis and it does the job better than me. It will park Ina an extremely tight fit. Haven't had any issues. Very strange that it hit the curb for you

I have also heard this. It uses the surrounding cars as guides, not the curbs. I rarely use mine, other than just for kicks on occasion. The last time it just reversed straight back next to the space and did not even attempt to turn in, lol. I think that may truly be THE last time it gets used. Too slow anyway.

I tried it once in an empty parking just for kicks. It backed into an empty spot crooked as hell. I can do that all by myself!!
