2020 Jeep Trackhawk or 2020 BMW X3MC?

I've got a sweet deal (well in my mind) worked on an X3MC and a decent deal on a Trackhawk. The difference will be about $20,000 more for the Trackhawk after it's all said and done.

The X3MC is loaded and the Trackhawk is almost fully loaded, really just missing rear entertainment which I don't care for.

I keep thinking the performance will be very similar based on what I read of 0-60 times and 1/4 mile times. The TH will have maybe 2 inches more leg room in the 2nd row and I thinking a better Harmon Kardon system (has a subwoofer) and sound is important to me but maybe the X3MC Harmon Kardon is great too. The X3MC tech is better but the TH has decent tech and some neat built in performance tracking features. Both have lots of customization with driving parameters. Gas consumption is not a high concern of mine.

I'm torn! I used to have and SRT8 about a decade ago and really liked it (until it started having electrical issues causing the engine to shutdown while driving). I had an x35d later and really liked it (until it started having terrible fuel pump issues). $20,000 is a lot of difference in price if performance is almost identical not to mention similar interior space and interior fit and finish (with the upgraded TH signature leather package).

I can get the TH serviced in the small town I live in, the BMW has to travel about an hour to Fort Worth which I don't like. If only annual maintenance I can live with it, but if I have warranty work from issues, that would get old quick.

I haven't seen either in person so I'm working off of reviews, past brand experience, and gut feelings. Please don't berate me for not having test drove each. Here is a great chance for you to just give your opinion which I can't refute with actual personal experience with either of them .

So... advice? Help me decide how to spend my money. My brother loves to do this with cars...

$20k LESS for the X3MC?? Its a no-brainer, the BMW of course! Other than straight line acceleration, the X3MC is superior in all the ways that should matter - quality, fit and finish, tech, steering, skidpad, braking, and god forbid you need to service your Trackhawk at a Jeep dealership... good luck!

(Car and Driver, shows both vehicles pulling similar numbers, with the X3MC actually getting better results, 3.3-3.5 0-60's and 11.6-12.0 1/4 mile)

Thanks guys, I knew you'd reassure me to do the right thing

My deal on the X3MC is right at 16% off after incentives and they are also giving me a really good trade-in value.

$20k difference? Wow does it include a month in Aspen? I would guess the Jeep will be more comfortable and "American" if that's important to you.

There is no comparison there. I would have taken the beamer even if it was 20k over the TC.

Well the Jeep Trackhawk MSRP is $99,170 and the BMW X3MC has an MSRP of $83,845. I'm getting quite a bit more off MSRP % wise (and actual dollars wise) on the X3MC versus the Trackhawk. So it comes out to actually closer to $22,000 difference in actual cost to me.

I'm sure this would make the decision a no-brainer to many, and maybe if I had actually test drove each already I would feel the same but as I haven't I just didn't know if there was really $20,000ish more performance or otherwise worth to a Trackhawk over an X3MC.

The dealership inconvenience of owning a BMW can be overlooked at this cost difference except if I run into repeated problems needing service on the X3MC--that would get very old and I'd probably wish I had bought the Trackhawk since the service is right here in my small town.

As far as resale value 3 years from now I have no idea either how these will stack up. That's important too and I'm just assuming it would be about equal in terms of % of MSRP. If the Trackhawk was way worse then that might make that additional $22,000 cost difference poof away and that would suck.

I had a loaded TH. Pretty accurate post except the service and performance comments.

Off the line, the TH is more brutal and will leave harder every time. Floor it and go. No m button and all the settings etc... No matter the mode, floor it and grin. C&D got 3.5? I got 3.2 in front of a damn Starbucks with no rollout. You can drive the piss out of it. It’s limits are more approachable and feedback is excellent! It’s no BMW, but the X3m surely isn’t a TH either. I averaged about 12.5 mpg though. And that generation of GC is a bit long in the tooth. Mine never had a problem and for oil changes, it was easy and the first two were free. The BMW is just nicer and very fast as well. Bang for the buck winner is the M. My TH stickered at 98k and I paid 88k. 71k for a fully loaded X3MC...I’ll take that every time.

Are there accounts of Trackhawks flipping? Extreme cornering?

IMO they are completely separate categories but I can see from a speed perspective how one can look to compare.

I have a buddy that has a TH and I follow a couple channels that have them. In terms of raw acceleration, stock to stock, the TH will eat our lunch.

The acceleration of the TH is comical and an experience any adrenaline junkie should experience.

I am amazed at how they hold their value vs the BMW. Having had 2 GC summits, I looked at the SRT back in 2016. I had a deposit on an SRT but went for the F15 V8 instead. They didnt have the TH at that time. I never regretted the decision, except for the depreciation.

The TH doesn't have nearly the fit and finish of a BMW. The fun technology (0 to 60 timer and other stuff) on the TH is much better than the BMW. The stereo also smokes the X3M.

The TH is a sledgehammer and the X3M is an expensive claw hammer.

I think the X5M is going to be a better match to the TH.

Oh now this makes me want to shell out for the TH. That raw power sounds good. I really don't want to be disappointed with the stereo in X3MC... I'm getting worried.

Don't forget the X3M knows how to take corners too

1 hr drive for service to save 20k seems pretty good...but go with your gut.

If power is what you want, how about the new 600 HP Corvette for $60k?

If I wasn’t looking for practicality that would have been on my short list.

Need an SUV. What about the Mercedes AMG GLC 63 SUV? Is it a good choice? Seems like you can't get big discounts on the Mercedes like BMW.

Earlier comments already built a compelling argument for getting the BMW M.

The only reason to get Jeep Trackhawk: raw, unabridged power. Otherwise, BMW is a winner with enough money left to go to Maldives.

I test drove the 63 and was not impressed. The power was delivered like a sledgehammer with no refinement. The interior felt cheap and squeaked. And it felt cramped.

The ride quality was brutal as well.

It’s a beautiful looking vehicle but was not for me.

It’s a very nice car. Problem for me was that the 63s version is only sold in the US as a coupe, with a tiny trunk. Buying an SUV with a tiny trunk just didn’t make sense for me.

Good feedback, waiting for our resident GLC expert to come in and advise 🤣
