Somebody had that, can't really remember who and in which thread. Try to search.

Your car will either get a new instrument cluster or a programming update for this issue. Plan to leave it for a day, possibly longer if they don't have the instrument cluster in stock if required.

I had this happen a few weeks ago. I drove for about two hours. I stopped for gas and when I started the engine again it was fine. Hasn't happened again and still don't know what caused it. Seems to be the same experience with everyone else in those other threads.

I think some of the settings, like which cluster it is, and how it should receive the data inputs, is not pushed out successfully at power up. Next time it hopefully works as usual again.
I have had something similar, to mine, but the only "defects" was that it was running the default settings for my hardware. Not my configured settings (like digital clock instead of analogue, etc..) Affected the HUD, that is added "on top" of the Instrument cluster. It was not running in "Individual" configuration. I changed it while driving, and it looked okay again, but the digital clock was still there. At next power up it alls worked as usual.

This same thing happened to my 2019 X3 as I was driving into work today. I shut the car down and restarted once here, but no luck. I've posted pics here... In addition to the alignment, the display is shaking and flickering a bit.
I have a call in to my local dealer. Would love to hear what others have learned. Argh!

Just wanted to give a quick update...
I drove my 2018 M40i for a year (about 5000 miles) then brought it in for the black screen recall. After that, I had the wonky instrument cluster happen 3 times in a month. I brought it in to get checked and they were unable to reinstall the software correctly. They ended up just installing a new instrument cluster! I've only had it back for a day so we'll wait and see if the issue has been fixed. |

Amazing quality control and reliability. I think even the cheapest budget android phone won't have display issues like this. WTF.

I’m in on March 10.... ours resolved after being in a state of “wonk” for over a day with the screen flutter and multiple starts.
With regard to the comment by Freshxdough... I sent my pics to the dealership, who responded that they had not heard of the problem.... hard to believe they will attempt a repair or R&R they can’t see if it does not manifest at the time of the visit... But this very much sounds like no BMW/Dealer interaction responding to what is not an isolated case.... |

Although it took ages to go off yesterday with same problem..its now operating normally...with 900 Km on the clock... Question....What do I do when I get there (booked in 10 Mar)...or rather my better half who will be taking it...and the problem isn't present.... The dash never shut down, and was still fluttering an hour later last time... Any suggestions on how to approach...would be appreciated. |

This happened to me over the weekend and now it’s fixed itself. I have an appt with the dealer in 2 weeks.
What ended up being the fix? Did yours come and go like this? |
