Lmao this comes at the perfect time. I've got my winter tires on, and this was the last season they had enough tread to be proper winter tires. So I've been running them down before I put the summers on. I'm buying this ASAP and running these things down bald hahahaha. With the msport diff as well this shits gonna be lit

So I'm doing a little research on how much I could mess up my car. The M40i has the ATC13 transfer case. I looked up where this has been usedz and it's been used on the G12 Alpina B7. This car has the N63B engine, which in this model puts out 600hp and 590 ft-lbs of torque. So this transfer case has the ability to hold much more torque than our cars have stock, and probably more than what they have tuned.

Thanks for this! I found that the F97 uses the same. Would this in theory mean that we could push 650 ft-lbs of torque without issue?

These transfer cases are good for a lot of power no need to worry in that department. We’ve pushed 1250hp and 1100tq on the stock transfer case in the g80 which shares the f97 transfer case

ATC13 is shared across a few platforms then (F90, F97, G80, G01). Seen some higher horsepower builds talk about
transmission slipping when over that 650 ft-lb torque range. What component is liable to fail at these power figures and would an upgraded torque converter by itself lend to any longevity?

First thing to go will either be transmisssion or driveshaft. The transfer case though by itself I would suggest maybe adding the billet bushings from Vargas. Now if you are spooked by the “fourms saying you need this and that😤” (main reason I’m active on the fourms now) then I would say shoot spend the extra money for a built part. But if the transfer case is shared from the g80 then I can tell you from experience that it held up at 1250 whp and 1100tq cutting 1.2 60fts. It’s really up to personal preference if you want to spend the extra money for “peace of mind” then do it. But remember just because something is built doesn’t mean it will last longer or be better. Hence why most built engines don’t last long like an OEM engine does.
Let’s say you wanted to bullproof the drivetrain I would upgrade in this path.

1. CF driveshaft with rear diff bolt fix
2. Stage 1 transmission upgrade if you are going for bigger power and want the trans to hold up. Now while your here I would say do the torque converter.
3. If you are at this point of upgrades then I would say most likely axles but no one has been high enough in power yet to test the axle strength of the x3.

I’ve heard that the CF driveshafts are more prone to overheating (also have PTSD from having snapped one on my modded Alfa QV) and that’s why the aluminum rated offerings are typically rated higher? I had planned on doing either from East Coast drive train, but was hesitant because of what I just mentioned. Also, have the FJ Motorwerks bolt upgrade already lol would it benefit at all from doing the VTT lock down kit in addition?

I’ve been talking to Tony and it doesn’t look like the lock down will fit due to the rear diff being different

I believe it will. The einhorn bolt kit is compatible as well, but saw that there was a lot of additional NVH.
