Please could you help me....

My 2007 X3 (E83) 3.0D (M57 engine) has recently had some work done to it.

I exhanged the turbo last weekend, this meant draining any excess oil from the system (only about 1.2L of oil came out). I presumed it had burnt all the oil as I had clouds of smoke out the back when it failed.

However I then refiited the drain plug and filled up with 7.5L of oil

Unfortunately, there must have been oil left in the system as the dip stick now shows it being considerably over filled.

I then went back to the drain plug removed it to lower the oil level and no oil came out.

This is confusing me somewhat.

I even removed the filler cap and oil filter just in case there was an air lock but still no oil came out.

What could this be?
