2022 G01 X3 removing digital cockpit, homelink garage door opener, and gesture contro
I have the LCI G01 X3 with the $2600 premium package and $900 Live Cockpit Pro. I think both are overpriced and unnecessary options for where I live, and if I intend on keeping this car for a while, I would like to remove and/or downgrade them and sell on eBay not worrying about resale value.
The first feature I'd like to remove is the Homelink garage door opener, but it's built into the rearview mirror (the LED lights and the three buttons). I do see a lot of these being sold for $150-200. The next feature would be overhead console gesture control camera. This also came "included" in the premium package and is pretty useless, I also see these being sold on eBay for $50-100. The hardest to replace would be the Live Cockpit Pro w/ Navi. The navigation in the Cockpit Pro is useless because I use Maps on Android Auto and the map cannot be displayed. The other features are all included in the Plus, so the Pro is just an overpriced version of the Plus with pretty colors. The cockpit is sold for $600-800 used on eBay, but replacing this would be too risky. Other than these issues, the G01 X3 is a great car. |

Not sure yet. I will have to see what maintenance costs are like in 5 years. I don't think I will want to trade it in, but I will try to sell it myself on marketplace platforms when the time comes. Maybe after the factory maintenance plan and warranty expires in 3 years.
Why would removing features that BMW owners in general rarely if ever use like gesture control and homelink decrease the resale value significantly? I guess if these parts are too integrated into the car, it is impossible to remove them anyways without removing the entire component (i.e. the entire overhead console, the entire rearview mirror) |

Why remove those items? You are talking about maybe making 1k from on items from a 70k car. Why not just leave as is and not use them if you don’t like them.
I have the new 23 and love rhe live cockpit pro. I also use the homelink daily and wish I had the gesture control, I typically drive with my left hand on the wheel and right arm on the armrest and it would be nice to just twirl my fingers to change volume. |

I suppose. Isn't the live cockpit pro w/ nav / 12" larger display and gesture control included on all 23 models if you get the $2600 premium package (which includes heated seats/steering wheel, comfort access, moonroof, harmon kardon sound, homelink, lumbar support)? That's how it should have been as what the dealer told me, but for some reason it was a separate charge of $900 for the 22 models.
What would you use the homelink for other than opening/closing the garage door? |

Most everybody with a garage door uses homelink. That seems unwise. Don’t forget, for every part you remove you are also going to have to get a replacement, code, and install it. Is there an actual overall cost savings? At the end you’re going to be left with a car that if you ever go to sell, the options won’t match the VIN or Maroney sticker.
BMW. “Now even the customers are decontenting the cars.”

I suppose so. I'm too old fashioned for all this new tech but still wanted the premium build quality and materials that come standard in a BMW. Does the premium package come with the slightly better 12 speaker HiFi sound system? It's labeled Harmon Kardon not sure what's the difference over the base sound system not in the premium package.
I also wonder the homelink can be programmed to do more than open a garage door; there are 3 preset buttons. Controlling smart lights, gates in a gated community, door locks... I'm still disappointed that in 2023 Live Cockpit / nav is included in the Premium package for an extra $50 but in 2022 it was an extra $900. Especially since after 4 years the BMW Connected Services, navigation system, real time traffic, gas station search, won't be continued OTA without a paid subscription. Seems kind of BS having paid that up front |

Leave as is and don’t use… The dealers are more flexible on trade-ins when your car is loaded with packages and options. For example my 17’ sr5 with all additional options (factory broadway rearview, KDSS, 5th row, tow pack, etched glass and vehicle recovery) is sitting around $26,200 on KBB in Excellent condition and I was able to bump the initial bmw offer from $20,500 to $24,000.

If you simply put a garage door opener in your car and leave it outside occasionally, miscreants can break a window and use the opener to open your garage, perhaps gaining access to your house. The Homelink opener will not work unless the car’s electrical system is on—meaning you’re in it with the key.

Are you looking to do this because you want to make some $$$, or just because they feel evil to you? I'm totally puzzled about harvesting organs from your beautiful baby either way. For one you have to buy a new cockpit which would cost you, but you said that was too risky.
Thus you wanna make max 200 bucks - StealBay comm. I would leave as is and ignore - less risk, better resale value (well not really value, more appeal). |

Homelink is standard in the most base of base of the cheapest cars. Removing that would be extremely odd. |

Ridiculous thread started by the OP. I suggest the OP go to auto scrap yards and start pulling parts off whatever BMW's he can find and sell those parts IF he thinks he can sell them.
I'm sorry but it's just dumb to buy a new car then begin stripping off parts for "harvest". "Troll"?? |

What gets me is that OP pays 3600 more in options he doesnt use and states he seen some parts being sold on ebay for 150- 200 bucks.
I wish there was a way to chart/graph OP's mind when it rationalized this and came up with this conclusion. |
