Some questions before ordering new X3

I am in Canada.

I want to get X3 30i for my wife, but head up display and parking assist are not available.

Does anyone know when it will be available because my current lease will end in Oct?

My SA told me both options were available on 40i, but it is much more expensive and we don't really need the extra horse power. The gas price is also high.

If I have no choice, I may have to buy 40i but I am worried about the reliability because of the 48V hybrid engine.

Any suggestion?

Thanks

No one knows. It’s a crap shoot on what options are available now as it is, and chip shortage is expected to last into 2023/2024.

An SA reached out to me yesterday via text message trying to sell me on 30i. He said the park assist is now available to add as an option. Not sure about HUD.

I got HUD on my M40i. Is that only available there? Or did I get in while it was still available? I got it via the premium package.

I have been holding off on ordering for a few months because of this. Now I’m definitely gonna hit my SA up tomorrow to ask!

If the 360 camera is in the park assist, then I would strongly recommend to get it.

The extra power the M40i brings is worth the step up in my opinion but HUD is way overrated. You can’t see it with Polaroid sunglasses and it’s distracting at night. Others will disagree but that’s my opinion. Park assist is also overrated. It’s nice but totally unnecessary. All you need is the back up camera and your good to go.

i agree w both these statements... i have the hud and the only place i see real use for is in a performance car when u always need to see your speed and for something like a shift light... i.e say in an m4... then add the fact that I always wear sunglasses and u cant even see it, almost makes it worthless imo

as far as 360 cameras, they r nice in a bigger car like the x3 but their true use is parking next to a curb... u can easily do that w the tilt mirror and backup cam

Going to agree with upgrading the engine. If you have the funds, don't end up with buyers remorse. Plus, the 6 is more reliable than the 4 and you won't have to run the engine up to redline for passing and entering freeways.

As for the HUD, I use it all the time. Fortunately, I have Transitions XtrActive lenses. They darken whether inside or out of the car and polarize only when UV radiation is present.

I have a 21 X3 and 22 M40i. On a long trip the M40i gets the same MPG, sometimes better. The engine doesn't have to work as hard and down shifts are less than the 21 X3. Also the power is there when you need it.
I turned off the HUD on my M40i. At first it was fun to use but it became annoying. Just my opinion.
I like 360 camera view when pulling up against a curb to park. No curb rash.
What I do miss and should have got is adaptive cruise.

The parts shortage and the new price increases make this something that you have to think about more often then you used to. It used to be easy to say when ordering to add this or that option when buying.

You will find a lot of opinions on HUD and Parking Assist. I use my HUD when using navigation on travels. The HUD shows you lanes and merges. It is useful for that. It also shows a choice of other display info...like song playing, rpm, and a couple of other limited information. I do not find it useful outside of the navigation. I would also not specifically pay more for it (I purchased off lot).

Parking Assist I believe I got with the 3D cameras. I use the cameras all the time for parking. I like to get in the corners as close as possible. I do not use the parking assist. I was going to try this weekend for a parallel spot. Did not know the steps, so just self parked. Since I like to get in tight, I like to park myself.

Both of these options wont add a lot of value at sell time, but might make it easier to sell. If you are leasing again, that wont be an issue either.

Have you read about reliability issues with the 48v? I haven't heard of any. How long do you plan on keeping the car for?

No HUD would be a dealbreaker for me. I'm not sure how your finances or waiting tolerances are, but I'd upgrade to the M40 for it for sure at the time you wanted it. Same with the parking assist package. Once you get used to the all around camera it's hard to go back.

When I decided an X3 was for me, I learned you could only get parking assist and 360 cameras in the M40. The price increase over the 30 made me think, but ultimately the advantages outweighed the higher price. As someone else said, once you’ve used the camera system (which I had in my previous 330) it’s hard to give that up.
I’ve also found the 6 cylinder engine to be smooth running, and power is there when needed.

I’m glad I bought the M40.

When you rotate the HUD it removes the polarised glasses issue, no?

The 3D camera view from the app is awesome and for spying on your car.

I also wanted the HUD but heard about the issues w/polarized sunglasses and another person said some people may think it's too bright. As it only just became an option for the 30i recently, I didn't have a choice but it worked out in my favor as the 4 cylinder is powerful enough for me!

I began shopping for my 2022 X3 in January of 2022. I went in looking for the standard X3 with all the cameras and HK sound. Due to chip shortages, or whatever, those options weren’t available. You could order them on the M40 model. In addition, factory order was the only way to get what you wanted. Lack of allocation pushed me to August production, and a 2023.
I understood that option availability had improved around then. I’m glad you got what you were looking for.

I had no idea in which timeframe you had started looking and shouldn't have commented on that. Apologies!

I would love to wear polarized glasses but my desire to have the HUD far supercedes my desire to wear a polarized glasses. You can get some quality non-polarized ones that are fine and I think the brightness of it should be adjustable if I remember correctly.

Theoretically yes but how much do you have to rotate it to have it come back into solid view? I don't want to be staring at they had that is 45° rotated or even 20° for that matter.
