What's interesting in the US, the same politicians trying to make things "safer" by limiting the ability of law abiding citizens to carry a firearm are the same which make it easier for repeat criminals to go back out on the streets.

There was a homeless guy in China Town (NYC) with multiple arrests/convictions who followed a woman back to her apartment and stabbed her to death recently - as an example.

Additionally, there have been a ton of reports of people getting smashed in the head with hammers or pushed on the tracks in the NYC subway system.

Of course, you have a better chance of winning the lotto than getting a firearm permit in NYC. A carry permit is impossible to obtain.

Keep in mind though, the UK is why we have a second amendment (the right to keep and bear arms). Our founding fathers wanted to make sure we had the ability to fight back against a tyrannical government

No arguments from me, just let me ask you one question... Would you allow someone to harm your wife, kids, yourself without at least trying to protect them with whatever means necessary? If you answer yes, well... you're just not a gun person. To be 100% honest, I rarely carry my gun with me on drives, BUT I value having the option to carry if I choose to.
I can't think of a situation wherin it would warrant carrying a gun either in my home or in my car. Even a potential carjacking wouldn't force me to carry a weapon for fear of a shootout, in turn injuring/killing my family, or me for that matter! I live in a fairly large city with approx 7m peeps...there are certainly dodgy areas, I just don't frequent them.

In any event, your choice, not mine. I was simply curious what situation(s) might cause you to carry a weapon.

No disrespect, but I can't even comprehend this statement. To leave
your life in the hands of a killer, not willing to defend yourself under any circumstances, I just can't comprehend this?

Wow… until it takes the police to help you on a break in or other situation. Once the victim, people then get self-protection. I could care less who Carries and who doesn't. Not my problem… but put me in a life or death situation, I'll like my chances a lot more. Just saying

It’s the unthinkable which gun owners prepare for (like armed intruders raping and killing your family and setting your house on fire - happened years ago in an affluent Connecticut suburb).

You have every right not to want to own a gun. I personally want the ability to protect my family/property in the event I am faced with the unthinkable.

Do I think it will happen? No. I also don’t think I’ll get into an accident but I wear my seatbelt without fail. Unfortunately crime is not limited to crappy areas and there are tons of examples of this. You just never know.

I respect the decision of people who don’t want to own a gun as long as they respect my right to own one.

It's already been said here, but I respect each persons decisions to own, or not to own a gun... Just don't tread on me and my liberties. No need for nastiness in a thread discussing firearm placement in your own vehicle. If you don't like this topic, move on to the which wax to use thread.
