Good luck with that, there is a thing called Braking when going straight.

I don't think the Conti stock summers would be safe in the brutal cold.

I don't think winter tires would be necessary as we rarely actually need to drive through inches of snow.

So what is wrong with all seasons during our colder months? (As compared to winters). I'm genuinely asking
I think all seasons are perfect for these SUVs. While I agree with other points noted here that there is less grip, these tires are pretty damn close in grip to a summer tire. I would guess 90-95% of the grip of a summer tire. I had these Pilot All Seasons on my E90 M3, which had better low end than these modern engines, and I was shocked how good the grip was. At the end of the day, these are still SUVs, and I think they should come stock with an all-season tire. I get that maybe "at the limit" there is a noticeable difference, but honestly, how often are people tracking these trucks?

Also, the 4S's (or any summer performance tire) are terrible in the cold months (had them on my F80). The compound becomes hard as a rock, and the tires slip easily.

Winters are better if you you get significant snowfall, but here in PA it is pretty rare and an AS tire is a good compromise.

Curious for thoughts from others in the northeast (i'm in NY).. I have the 698's now, looking to purchase some 718s (or maybe 765s) -- and put winters on the 698s, summers on the 718s.

Are you guys suggesting this is less useful than I'm expecting? And just throw AS's on one set?

Edit: I'm really struggling to figure out best tires for the 21" wheels, so trying to put it all together. Every tire seems to have sh*t reviews for treadwear if you read long enough

If you have two sets of wheels, I would suggest summer and winter tires.

I have a second set with Michelin pilot alpins and they have been great, but they are from my F80 and I didnt know what to do with them. That is why I went AS on the X4M

Wear expectations with performance summer tires used to be 10k miles! I believe the PS4S are the first and best to expect longer tread life but I've only had them once and traded before they wore out. Unfortunately with 20" rims, I just had to get the PS4 SUV with a lower tread rating but at least they're warrantied for 20k miles.

In the northeast or snowy climates, switching from summers to winters gives you the best of both needs. All season is a compromise winter and summer.
Plus switching out 3 months of the year extends the useful life of the summer tires. In the end, after 3-4 years, the winter set may almost pay for themselves. EG in 4 years, either needing 3 sets of summer tires, or 2 sets summer and 1 set winters, saving money.

i’m just not sure if the 265/40 * BMW is specifically designed for the front or the rear.

ive seen others that bring the rear tires to the front. if these are those tires, then thats a stupid idea and would go with M01.

Makes sense. I was similarly convincing myself with the rationale that paying more now will help me save later (but really i just wanted the bigger wheels lol). Appreciate the input and help!

I have just bought a full new set of MPS4S do my X3 M40d but the garage are saying that because of the width they will now rub on the arches at the front when turning. Is this correct? Or should 265/40/21 be ok upfront on my car?

Are there any differences to track or wheel width between the X3m and X3m40d?

What sizes did you purchase?

They have fitted the rears for me but would not fit the front, as they claimed they were too wide and would rub on the suspension.

Hmm, well on my x3m Comp it certainly doesn't rub. Yours is a little higher off the ground so you should have more clearance but maybe the suspension is just that different?

265s on the front for my X3M do get pretty close to the strut, but certainly don't touch.

I don’t suppose you have any photos of the wheel/strut from behind do you?

Anyone have experience with 265/45/20 on the front? This is a bit taller than 265/40/21 that some are running.

I’m running 12mm all around. You can see how it looks in an earlier post. Fits perfect.

any noticeable cornering issues going larger?
they sized it this way for a reason, since there is no price difference between 265 and 295, even if there was, that's still a cheap upgrade.

The air is pushing the tire left and right, making it more 'square' to the rim is just adding lateral play, imho.

For those of you running the 265/40/21 front and 295/35/21 rear PS4S, what pressures have you settled on?

Just got my new Pirelli scorpion all season tires installed.

Front 265/40/21
Rear 295/35/21

Currently running 15mm spacers all around and lowered on MSS springs. For some odd reason there's a lot of weird road noise coming from the car now. Almost sounds like wind noise. Something sounds off. Anyone have any ideas what it could be? Haven't gotten an alignment yet. Also I'm not sure if anyone else has these tire sizes + the spacers. Maybe i should take them off? I'm not a tire expert so any help is appreciated!

I'm thinking it could be because the tires are might be too inflated but not 100% sure. Just wanted to see if anyone has had a similar issue.

UPDATE: ended up being an issue with my strut. Nothing tire related after all.

So far i have noticed that the front is fine but i do hear slight rubbing on the rear when i hit some of the bigger dips/bumps. But the fitment looks damn good so I'm gonna leave it as is
