Used X3 buying help - manual

Hello, I’m new to the forum and new to BMW.
Looking for some guidance, need to know info, and recommendations on buying a used X3 BMW.
I’m specifically interested in manual but they are rare here in Canada.
I have found a few but they are high mileage between 225-285,000 kilometres.
What should I look out for when these cars hit high mileage?
When do the timing chain intervals take place?
Other then the usual consumables (tires, brakes, tie rods and ball joints, light etc) to get safety to register for the road, what else should I be checking for?
Are these engines hard to work on? Definitely looks tight with it work space to work but I don’t mind spinning a wrench if they are fairly straight forward.
Thanks in advance for the replies and any info.
Cheers and nice to meet everyone.
Al
