After market brake rotor alternatives

Need rear brakes. Was hoping to avoid buying factory rotors due to cost and the relatively low resale value of 2007 X3’s with >100k mi. I put after market brakes on my Boxster. They work beautifully and cost <1/2 of the factory brakes.

But since the X3’s have a rep for marginal brakes anyway, maybe I need to stick with the factory set up?

You don't have to. If you want good bite-feel however, you'll need to stick with semi-metallic pads such as pagid or textar, but dusting is an issue. Otherwise you can do akebono ceramic pads. As for rotors, you can use pretty much any reputable brand. Pagid and Meyle (fcp euro lifetime warranty) are good.

R1 concepts drilled and slotted rotors, kinda surprised at the quality of these, paid ~$200 for front\rear rotors and brake pads. Newegg.com has them with free shipping and 25% off coupon. You can get them cheaper without the slots\holes.

Great, thanks. Where did you get the 25% off coupon? And to confirm, you put this setup on an X3 and the braking is fine?

Yes, on my 2004 E83 X3 3.0 and the braking is good. You will need to bed them in correctly.

I guess they got rid of the 25% off coupon and just reduced the price.
Originally they were $280 for the set.

You can also try these

I also put a set on my 135I, no problems.

Curious as to how these are compared to the stock ones?

Remmen brakes has cross drilled and slotted rotors for the E83 X3. Prices shown are for 2 rotors which is very reasonable.

Also the E90 335Xi callipers and rotors fit the E83 X3 (interchangeable)
