2010 vs. 2011 Cargo Capacity
The 2010 specs show
Cargo capacity, all seats in place: 30.0 cu.ft. Maximum cargo capacity: 71.0 cu.ft. The 2011 specs show Luggage volume m³ / ft³ 0,550-1,600 / 0,550-1,600 / 27.6-63.3 The numbers seem to suggest the 2010 has more cargo capacity than the 2011. Yet the BMW literature states the following: - 550L cargo capacity (15% improvement vs. previous generation) - More trunk space than both Mercedes GLK and Audi Q5 - Up to 1600L capacity with split-folding rear seats How does BMW claim a 15% improvement in cargo capacity for the 2011 when the 2010 shows bigger numbers? Are they measuring the cargo capacity differently in the 2010 vs. the 2011? |

There's probably someone more knowledgable on the subject, but from what I know the method of how cargo volume is calculated in EU vs. SAE (US) is not the same. So when you convert what's published in the EU or other non-US specs to cubic feet, it won't be the same as when the actual SAE values are published. It has to do with how the volume is computed, some methods are the volume if you were to fill it with water, others use virtual "boxes" to fill the space and add them up (more realistic). Anyone have a more exact answer?
