2018 X3 M40i
MSRP: $61,495 Discount: $6,745 (Dealer discount $4,245 + $1,000 Finance + 1,500 Loyalty) Selling price $54,750 5th BMW at this dealer so I'm happy with the savings. You need to shop around some dealers came close but some were way off. |

TBH, I'm not sure how I got that deal. One dealer offered combined dealer discount + financing credit of $2500 @ 0.9% or $4500 @ 3.4 or 3.6% (can't remember the numbers exactly anymore). I don't know if they were stacking the BMW Loyalty Credit in there since this dealership knew the car I drove up in and I wasn't seriously negotiating at that point.
At the dealership where I eventually got the final deal, I originally only went to test drive the M40i without any intention to buy since I saw they had the 21" wheels on that car. There was a really pushy/aggressive sales staff assigned to me which only turned me off and I was already pretty set on taking my business elsewhere. They presented me a hum-ho number so I countered with something absurdly low and made a stink about the non-M wheel just so I could leave since I was running late for a dinner meeting. As I was getting ready to leave, they really surprised me with the offer above which wasn't far off from the number I gave them and also offered the 1% APR which wasn't expected. I'm not sure how it made sense for them to offer the car at such a discount since they only had one upcoming allocation for production (at least so I was told)... Based on what I've been seeing in my area, I think 5-6% of MSRP for a 30i and 3% off for an M40i + the Loyalty Credit + Financing incentives are what is competitive here... |

Just started conversations on 2018 M40. MSRP is $65,425.
10k/36 Month lease. No cap reduction but will pay taxes and fees first. 1st dealer quoted me $835/month. Second $750/month. Will report back with more results as i continue discussing. Either the dealers don't want to sell the car or BMW doesn't want this leased (Or dealers are being extra greedy right now). |

Got first quote: well optioned M40i with MSRP of 65,675. Dealer said they only had one allocation and would not sell below list minus $4k ($1500 loyalty, $1000 BMW financing incentive, $1500 corporate discount). Interestingly, they confirmed the $1000 financing incentive is available even if you go with the super cheap 0.9% bmw financing (which apparently applies for even 60 month financing).
Manager said other dealers with more allocations may well be able to give me a better price. I’m going to get a few more quotes. |

Wish we had these deep discounts Canada.
All I got the 1500cad intro discount plus 1100cad dealer discount. And option to chose 1000cad loyalty or 1% off interest rate which in Canada is 2.9 for finance and 3.9 for lease. Oh yeah and free winter mats. And they won't budge on 3000 freight and pdi plus 600 doc fee |

For those that are in the process of ordering an M40i, what is the wait you have been told it would take? Heard from a friend that one local dealer here in the NY area says there is a 3 month wait. It could be isolated to that one dealership but am I curious if there are folks who are having production issues.

Good thing you jumped on it. My friend here had to take the only M40i that was on the lot or wait at least 3 months (or more!). I wonder what the issue is.

I have heard that all production slots through March are allocated. If a dealer has allocation then the dealer can change the specs, other than engine.

Negotiation / dealer help
Hello!
I am new to buying cars and considering x3 or x3 m40i. I have never really bought a car by myself. This will officially be my first purchase on my own. I will be trading my car, Acura tlx 2016 AWD. I see people here who get their price near invoice.. so far the dealers who i have talked to are keep saying x3, especially x3 m40i, are on high demand, thus they cannot go lower. Any tips on this? Also, on quoting my acura for a trade.. I am in the military in Washington state. Looking at tacoma, bellevue, and seattle. Hoping to get it near invoice and use the incentives. If anybody are kind enough to meet me, I am all in. Meal / coffee on me haha |

Also, heard similar story re m40i and ultimately got dealer with one allocation to give me a competitive price (below invoice) based on quotes from other dealers. Don’t really know the dealer mechanics, but I would note that the first time I walked out the door from the dealer I ended up buying from I was told their policy was that they wouldn’t go below MSRP because it was a rare car in high demand. I asked them if they’d match the best quote and they ended up agreeing. Last edited by edcrane; 12-07-2017 at 04:28 PM.. |

I see everyone here are ordering their own build. If I am buying from the lot, should I be expecting more discount? Or is it the same as building and equally hard to get discounts? |

You can read up on it. Not sure you should ordinarily expect greater discount when they have inventory costs associated with carrying the vehicles on the lot, unless of course they have a particularly hard to sell spec. The reason they have vehicles on the lot in the first instance is because the vast majority of north american customers prefer to buy something they can see on the lot and close the deal on in short order.
