Angry OPF filter = 0 sound

Just grab my x3m comp today in Portugal and was very upset with the car sound, it's feels like u drive Tesla, not M car!

We already check on elevator and found 2 huge OPF filters.

Did this filter exist in USA cars or only in Europe?

Can i simple delete it without remap car?

It's EU markets only as far as I understand. The US cars are much louder when you look at YouTube reviews. I Was chatting to a UK dealer today and apparently these OPF filters are now being fitted to the M5 too and he has one customer thinking about cancelling his order as a result.

Curse the meddling EU !

All new m5 and m2 comp and m4 came with OPF filter, on m4 and m2 even carbon reductor was changed to metal one to fit OPF filter!

The main problem is - u can't delete OPF filter without reprogramming ECU ( there is backpressure sendor on each downpipe!

So actually all EU cars have only one exit - decat and remap) or deOPF and remap.

My car is at the doctor ( exhaust sport specialist ) in north Italy

OPF removal + ECU remap to disable backpressure sensor and other sensor ,but not extra HP just hoping to keep the warranty safe.

I decided to keep the OE downpipe . I'm looking just for the right sound and not more power .

As soon as my car will be ready I post some video

Wanted to check - has the current M5 come with OPF since launch or was this added one more recent cars ? I only ask as I drove an early 2019 UK M5 Comp ('19 plate) a few months ago and it certainly did not sound as muted as my X3MC and it even had some "snap, crackle and pop" - something I though not possible. So I got the impression it's been added mid-cycle.

I just wondered - I am BMW newbie so just learning about the model range.

Nice to see some Euro folks on here trying some modifications on the exhaust. I look forward to hearing the results !

It's looks like SuperSprint, if your x3m comp is grey (saw on this facebook page already).

You are right! Supersprint exhaust
They develop it for X3 and now for my X4 .

They told me that on the dashboard of the X3 after few km the yellow engine light turned on and they send the car to a ecu specialist to disable the backpressure sensor .

Ofc, cuz OPF cars has a small pipes placed after first catalyst to measure backpressure in exhaust.

I already have a guy, who can remap the car, even remotly (odb-ethernet cable), he did one of the first m5 st2 (f90). I just waiting to order a good exhaust solution or mb will do custom.

The main idea - keep stock catback (there is no reason to delete it), just put straight downpipes without OPF tubes (anyway it will be removed by ECU map), after put a good sport catalyst in current place of OPF filter and connect to stock resonator. That's should be enought.

I have m3 f80 with almost all possible tune on the market and was really upset, when i saw no difference between full Akrapovic exhaust (10k$) compare to just 350$ downpipes in power and not a big sound difference.

Ciao......

Thanks for sharing the images acce98. I stitched them together so I could compare to BMW's tech document's image, so thought I would share here as well. Looks like the center silencer was also removed? Looking forward to your video. I have to research how the OPF's can continuously 'regenerate' if they are actually capturing particulate matter (? heat to incinerate the deposits, or ?). And how do EU authorities know if folks do this to their vehicles (do you have to have annual inspections or do they not check)?

This is SS custom full exhaust, in my opinion you don't need to remove silencers and stock catback, if you will put straight decat downpipes and change OPF boxes to sport Catalyst, that nobody will detect the changes in MOT

Mantova is only an hour from where I live. Let me know how you like the new setup. I'm shipping my F97 back to the states in December but might go down pipe before I leave here if their solution is good.

In Italy we must do the inspections after 4 years from the car registration . Same in Germany

From Akrapovic web site M5
( When installing the Akrapovič Evolution link pipe set, remapping the ECU is mandatory in order to prevent potential "check engine light" warning signals. THIS PRODUCT DOES NOT MEET EMISSION COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS FOR STREET OR HIGHWAY USE. )

I'm not a technician, but I think this is the best solution to increase the sound and why not some more HP .

From Manhart website:
https://www.manhart-performance.de/s...---x5/x6?c=302

By installing this module you don't need to remap the car .
They said that the module for X3/X4 are under develop and it will be ready for the market very soon .
