I suspect I have a shitty battery...but dealer won't agree.

What kind of feedback did you get?
That does sound like a battery dying a slow death.

They replaced rear power distribution box on Thursday. Drove fine on Friday...then today threw another code 5 mins into a journey, "rear axle" - car lost power and juddered to a halt. Restarted and all OK, but losing faith in the car after a week of ownership. Its dangerous to drive.

Had a similar issue with my GT 5 series a few years back and finally they determined it was a shorting door handle. An issue with the "comfort close". It caused all types of battery / electrical issues before they figured it out

I heard you can shoot the door handles with a heat sensor to determine if one is looking hot.
