Stop release

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
So, collection due on Saturday. Just received an email, not even the courtesy of a call, to say the release has been stopped. I've changed plates, cancelled and rearranged insurance. Just a brief email saying they cannot let the car go. Awaiting more information. Anyone ever heard such a story? I'm fuming.

Odd - Probably time to give them a call to ask why they can't let the car go. Did it get damaged?

See email I have received from my dealer just an hour ago.....I'm not due to collect my car until next weekend.

"Thanks for e mail , since I sent you the e mail this morning I have had communication from BMW GB that your new car is on a delivery stop as there is an outstanding campaign on the car which will require to be carried out before we are able to release to the customer . Unfortunately I have no further information as yet but hopefully nothing that will delay the delivery "

Mine was very similar to that email.

Update:

Salesman tbf has tried so hard. He's just called.

A stop release is because some similar car anywhere on the planet has had some fault. So, any car needs checking before release. So, could be nothing and we collect Saturday. Car is ours, it just needs releasing. I guess they want to check and ensure it's released in proper order. Fair enough.

They'll call tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Yes, I'd rather it sorted before collection it must be quite important otherwise they would have just waited to do the campaign at the RIS.

Sounds like a mandatory recall/TSB. Good that they are resolving prior to delivery.

Curious what is the issue though as mine is in prod now?

Interesting reading.

Just done a recall check on mine using my VIN number and showing as no outstanding recalls or enhancements.

Keep us posted on how you get on.

But for such a new car I doubt anything would be there yet.

Waiting for an update. They've not ruled out a Saturday collection. It could be something or nothing. I'll update.

It's going to be a programming update. For New vehicles it will be a stop sale. No further info tho.

Update:

It is something to do with an oxygen sensor and I have been told that no X4Ms are being released right now. I have no idea what this means or implies but I do think that this might be a bit of an issue. I've already made a further payment on my Macan and I wonder if it drags on whether the deal might simply fall apart or whether they will stand by it. So far, I can't fault them and they have really been accommodating; this issue is not theirs, obviously.

I've had a welcome video of the car sent over last week, e-signed all the paperwork, paid a deposit, done everything. I even cancelled my insurance on the Macan ready for this morning. Headache...much.

Have you thought about suggesting they take the Macan, give you a temp loan car in the interim and you collect yours once released? Keeps life simple with the Porsche, give you free motoring, get you used to BMW interface...

I haven't and neither have they, I guess. I know the BMW interface having had an M3 for 3 years. I like your thinking though, I'll maybe ask.

Interesting, I picked mine up on Thursday, but I guess it's all down to the build date as some have been here for a while whilst others have just arrived from the factory like mine.

I'm in the same boat, just had the dreaded phonecall, to be fair I thought it was going to be a it's been damaged phone call so I'm kinda glad. Just a pain with arranging insurance etc for a pick up on Monday, now who knows. Hopefully just turn around and say it's a simple fix and release the cars!!!

I know how you feel. Helps us in a way though as it is clearly a thing that needs doing and they are being cautious. Hopefully it'll be a software thing and the techs in Munich will work some solution. The insurance thing has been the biggest headache for me as I had cancelled in preparation for the collection.

I took delivery of an X3 sDrive in October. First day of ownership, the check engine light came on. It sat for just short of a month waiting for a new 02 sensor.

I hope your wait is less than mine...

Oft that's not a good start was it .

Looks like this one is an ECU update for the Oxygen sensor fault diagnosis so have to see when the software is released (possibly Monday )then can be uploaded to the affected cars.

I guess it also depends where in the queue everyone's cars are

From BMW TIS:

"BMW of North America, LLC has issued a Delivery Stop (effective December 5, 2019) on certain Model Year 2020 BMW vehicles that were produced between March 2019 and December 2019.
An error in the oxygen sensor on-board diagnosis (OBD) may not properly illuminate the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) when a fault is detected."

All it needs is a software update, no parts replacement, no big deal.

I hope this is on the money. If so, we are good to go this week. I've emailed the dealership suggesting they loan me something in the interim, so as to consolidate my Porsche trade-in. The salesman yesterday said he would try to be creative on Monday morning. I'll keep updating.
