x3m40 vs x3mxc- Thoughts after making the switch

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Just picked up my X3MC
Donington Gray on Tartufo and Fineline (my opinion an amazing interior combo that almost feels like an x5)- Very "mature"

Thoughts are--- ARE YOU KIDDING ME!
I was heavily debating doing the upgrade, but for me it was slightly less about the money because the deal I was offered was killer and not THAT much more a month, but about living in NYC and dealing with our glorious roads. Reviews made me question if I'd be shaking all over, my coffee spilling and my head hurting.

But the car, its a serious upgrade. Its not about the power , because its definitely there, and much more effortless than the m40, but the way the car feels. It feels like a much heavier faster m3, and less like a upgraded m40 (if that makes any sense). At the same time, it somehow feels much better built, more luxurious, and simply what many kept telling me... "A true M car is different". I kinda believed them. Now I understand the difference. The handling. The sensation.

The exhaust: No crackle, although I'm not downshifting hard due to break-in. Feels actually kinda more removed and but still a bit deeper. I actually like it.
The steering: Way more direct
The handling: Vastly better.
Seats: I like them a lot.
Braking: This is the one area I'm still getting used to. The m40 the braking distance of pedal was much shorter. Here, you have more feel, but you have the actually press more to get them to work. Does anyone feel that way?

Verdict: If the money allows, DO IT! You'll thank yourself for it. Its on a different level and I loved the m40.

Thanks for the write up! I just had my X3 totaled due a driver running a red light and am now debating another M40i or an X3M, and am leaning towards the M.

What was the deal you got on the M? % off MSRP?

14% before any rebates. Stacked college grad, OL, loyalty, CCA, and incentives are good this month.

Not including the $4k in the 14%? What was MSRP and your price prior to any rebates/incentives?

Trying to gauge where I can leverage some $$$ off

She absolutely loves it, even given the fact it does ride a bit firmer and the seats are also a bit firmer. She loves the styling and the performance is amazing to her. I feel the same way.

As for me, I am in the same boat. When we first test drove the X3MC we both thought it did not ride much firmer than the M40i, but have since come to change our minds on that with a bit more seat time. It is a bit former overall, but not to the point of being uncomfortable. That might be the result of both the suspension, 21 inch low profile tires (our M40i had the 19s) and the seats.

We did not drive a base X3M with the 20's and standard seats. I would have to think that would feel a tad bit less firm.

I drive a 2019 Volvo XC60 T6 Inscription with the Napa leather seats and that vehicle rides like a Cadillac in comparison. Much softer ride.

Is it worth the $20K over the M40i (our 2018 M40i MSRP was $64K, this MSRP was $84K)? We say yes.

I totally agree with your observations. I too switched from my 2019 M40i to MC. The power upgrade is huge (as to expect from a 550 hp engine). The rolling acceleration is breathtaking. The handling is absolutely incredible, almost like my former M4, best i’ve ever experienced in an SUV. The transmission is fantastic, love the D3 mode! But perhaps the most impressive part is the upgraded engine cooling. It’s absolutely incredible how well it works and how fast the engine cools down, real motorsport stuff right there... Verdict: My new X3 MC makes my old M40i look like a boring soccer mom car.

Haha, that's how I'd describe it too. I was always a fan of the M40i, its a great car, but the experience and feeling from the full M cannot even compare. The X3MC is really greater than the sum of its parts, there's a visceral feeling it gives that almost cannot be described...just has to be experienced! The steering, the chassis, the engine, the exhaust all work in harmony that creates an experience that the M40i doesn't have at all

Visceral and everything working in harmony is a great way to describe the difference.

The X3M brake pedal will be firmer due to having less servo assistance than the 40i which means more initial effort from your right foot but once on the brakes it's easier to modulate them.

Made the same switch from the M40i to the MC and oh my God it is incredible. The lease payment ended up being marginally more per month and I didn't even get the receive this month's incredible incentives. I'm actually bummed I didn't but I forget each and every time I press that red start button!

You were the first guy I messaged since I'm in North Brooklyn and saw the username. You were helpful. Honestly share the sentiment that it is smoother.
Also, truly a hugggggeee upgrade in performance. Somehow also feels much more luxurious. Did you put your winter set on?

So glad to hear you are enjoying it. I agree it is surprisingly smoother (without the run-flats). I don't think I'm gonna do a winter set. I'll just use the Audi for the days it snows.

According to fuelly:
For the X3 M40i, I was averaging 19.8 mpg for the 5,600 miles I owned it.
For the X3MC, I have been averaging 17.4 mpg for the last 1,000 miles.
