It eats through tires and brakes at an alarming pace and there are only 2 options for tires(325/35/22) and both are very soft compound Summer tires. I have to buy 4 new tires about every 7,500 miles and it needs full brakes every other tire change.

I have owned several versions of the Q5 and wanted something along those lines again. The M40i seems like a perfect trade off. I will miss the nasty 577 hp Twin Turbo V8 but not the maintenance of it.

I look forward to trying out the X3M40i. I think it will be here next week as it was actually in South Carolina but at a Dealership so my Dealership did a trade for it.

I will post pictures when I get it but for now, here is my DD. I guess I better try to sell it...lol...

Welcome!

You are going to love your new X3 M40i. Make sure you start a thread with some pictures. It will interesting to see what you think of the M40i's I6 @355HP and the 1000 pounds of weight savings vs the GLE 63S and its monster V8. Did you test drive the M40i? What about the GLC 43?

Yes, I drove the M40, I was surprised enough that I bought one...lol...

We actually own a GLC(non AMG) so I didn't want to go there. The tech even in my 120k AMG is so outdated...

Welcome aboard, ParadigmDawg, and thanks for sharing your photos. As I've shared in a previous thread, I remain pleased to see the wide variety of Performance-minded folks transitioning to the X3 M40i, from true M models to other Mnfrs' performance lines as well. Continues to be a nice affirmation that we made a good choice.

Nope, that would remind me of a less performer of my current car so I wanted something completely different.

It really does seem to be a true performance car that can be driven daily. I am excited about it.

Good afternoon! I’m guessing you’ve since taken delivery of the M40i and had plenty of time to get aquainted... care to give us your thoughts and contrasting viewpoints vs. your AMG?

Interesting as I discover more about my new M40i - I don't have an air intake lower left or right (they are both blocked of). I assume this is to do with the fact in Australia they don't have the active grill (I'm led to believe because we are considered a hot climate). Ironic given there are parts of America that would be hotter than here - we are often robbed in Australia of several to many kW from European brands based on "hot climate".

Nice looking stable you have there. I can't say that I love the fitment of the trunk mat though.

I'm looking for the carpeted style mat like we used to have in the E83. Was a nice thick carpet like a floor mat but nicer and embroidered.

All that work and the least you could have done before posting pics was ride off the rusty rotors!!! Geezzzz, and you call yourself a detailer?!?!?

Yeah, what's up with that free rear cargo mat, you don't have the spare tire option, do you?

I'm puzzled by this as well. One wouldn't think the active grill vents would be a high-ticket item, but if the theory is, 'Australia has a hot climate' and they won't ever be closed for improved aerodynamics, then it would seem to follow that you would need more cooling grills, not less. I tried to look up the purpose of the one in the right lower front (which you indicate was blocked off) but was unable to find anything on the ETKBMW site. Maybe some on our Forum can explain its purpose and why the discrepancy in our regional builds?

And I looked up the average monthly temps for Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth - they seem delightful. The Southwest and Southeast USA areas are leagues hotter, unless BMW thinks you all like to vacation in the central arid regions?

Definitely blocked off with a plastic infill.

and, yes, we have always suspected it was an excuse to rob us of power down here...

I'm in a relatively cool area, and we average around 4 days a year between 40-46 celcius(104-115 fahrenheit) a year where I am. Normally a dry heat, unlike up north where it would likely come with humidity. West and central Australia would be akin to your Death Valley however....

I wonder how many more m40i/m4 owners are in here?

Well that makes at least 2 in Melbourne by the looks! Haven't seen any others on the road yet. My dealer got 6 in their first delivery, so should start seeing a few more.
Enjoy it - loving mine!

What colour did you end up getting?

It's such a surprisingly quick car...

People don't expect the roar as it takes off the line!!
