what tires? I like costco because if you even get a flat 4 months later, they order you a new tire and only deduct the wear. But I can't find 245/50/r19, I just called canadian tire too.

I haven't checked yet if they have compatible rims, but in the past I have purchased BMW OEM rims from Autorim

Do you have any problems with the sensors since the tires are different size than stock? I am planning on getting either Nokian WRG3 SUV or Toyo Celsius CUV and both of them does not have matching size as stock. Any idea what is the highest ratio of sidewall that I can get before I start running into problems with the sensors? I already had to deal with faulty DCT on my last car because of wider tires.

What do wider tires have to do with the transmission?

I've had no problems with the sensors. I got another set of sensors for the 18" wheels and R2 tires. So each set (19" and 18") has it's own sensors. They both register in iDrive.

I was talking about the DTC button - traction control and DSC, not even a week after I put wider tires the whole DSC function stopped working. My car was manual by the way.

Oh, you said DCT which would be the dual clutch transmission. I put a 225/255 setup on my 135i instead of the stock 215/245 widths and had no issues with it, manual transmission as well.

Wider tires shouldn't affect any of those systems, drastically changing the rolling circumference of the tire and/or having a large difference between the rolling circumference at each axle could.

Is anyone in colder climates who have to use winters and getting the M40i getting the car with 19" tires/rims from the factory? The dealer said with the potholes here that he recommends 19" and then I can just buy winter tires (same size) so I don't need to get new rims since I am leasing anyways.

I'm leasing mine too, but I still believe going with a separate set of 19" (or even 18" for me, mine's x30i) for winter is a better choice, unless you pay for the tire + rim protection package.
The rims will go through a lot of potholes, snowbank, salt, salt, salt, salt, and salt.

I took the 21" rims. They make a difference in the look of the X3 and they are staggered performance tires.

Mounted winter tires will make the seasonal winter tire change quicker and less expense (free if you do it yourself). At the end of your lease if you get another X3 the winter rims will still be compatible. You should also get good resale value with an original kit if you choose to sell (got back 50% of value with my previous 335 kit).

They warn you about potholes so they can offer the Tire & Rim protection. Same speech every time. For minor flats, RFT can be repaired so you don't need to replace them as they claim (5 flats repaired in my RFT experience). They try to discourage you because of the winter tire law in Montreal, with 21" tires you need to buy a winter kit (not aware of any winter tires RFTs in that size) which increases the overall expense of your purchase and they don't want you to walkaway because of winter tires.

Myself and another forum member got a 19" winter kit at 20% off (~$3700 tax in with installation). You can compare it with some other aftermarket tire packages if you have time before buying.

That's what he said about the potholes, that 21" are more prone to flats because it is bigger. Montreal has the worst roads. But then I could use the same rims too. I will pm you for the contact on tires. Thanks,

In all my years driving RFT in Montreal, potholes have never caused me any damage. Nails and screws only.

You getting the X-ice 2s? How much are those wheels? I am thinking of the DAI Boss , it looks similar to the ones you picked but $250/ea.

I know that the best way is to test fit the wheels, but visually do you think the 18” snow packages will clear the M-sport brakes? The BMW website shows all four options when you filter by model but personally I don’t think the 18”s will fit.

Standard front rotors are 330 x 24 size , the msport are 348x36 , then when you look at the calipers they look to be twice the size.

It doesn't look like the 18" wheels will clear the M40i breaks. The 19" that I saw clears them with not much room left.
The parts guy didn't have a definite answer.

Can you please refer me to the dealer where you got your 19" winter set @ 20% off? The most I'm able to get is 10% off here.
