Anyone else notice their car idles high AFTER cold start?

30s or so after cold start, when the rpms finish dropping, My car sits around 900rpm, just below the 1k mark, when I cold start after not having driven the car for a while, and it stays there until I get moving typically.

Cars do not warm up quickly by sitting at idle, I would not worry about an elevated idle speed, the computers are dictating the appropriate engine speed for the current engine condition.

Still, seems odd, no other bmw I've ever had had has done this.

It stays in 900 range until the engine is warm. Then it goes to 300-400 range if I remember correctly.

Mine too. I think it's partly to give it a loud growl at start up. As you say, the merest in gear throttle and idle and volume drops.

This makes sense, I sat in the car last night to do some coding and it did eventually die down, I would venture to say after the amount of time it idled there, it was probably warm when it was done.
