Thats sad, I bet they are running a constant bitrate and the quality of a "busy" image uses up the available bandwidth quickly. I look forward to mine arriving in the next week and I'll play around with it also. Any options for image quality etc?

Yes, I believe I have it set on highest image quality.
And i am guessing with the proper editing equipment you could probably make out plates much better than I have demonstrated. Overall the quality of the image is VERY clear in general movement and history of events.

Hey, anyone that's installed this:

How do you take apart the replacement camera shroud to install it? Is it the same as the factory one? Just don't want to break the new plastics and it seems much harder to open than I'd expect?

I think mine came separated, but I had a hard time pulling off the original. I just PULLED from both ends and it finally cam apart. Here are photos of the original with the clips, might help.

I just used a pry tool to separate them, as well as a metal pick to lift some of the tabs once I could see the inside.

So I did finally get mine installed, seems to run a constant bitrate of 10mbps at least for 1080p. I need to test through the settings. Certainly looks factory!

At the end of the day, the camera just needs to be good enough to pick up the number plate of the vehicle, or the person's face.

Here's the link to the camera for anyone interested: https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/52BkZ9I

Installation was an absolute breeze, maybe that's due to doing installations on my previous cars myself, and definitely thanks to the members on the forum who have shared fuse locations (F47 for switch power, F27 for constant power, Firewall fuse bolt for ground).

This camera is the most OEM looking solution out there (even more so than BMW's own offering). The quality of the replacement mirror housing and it's clips/fitment, was spot on!

Thoroughly impressed with this camera implementation, and we'll see how the camera and its quality goes in the long run.

the only thing I wish I could do is continuous recording.. but this should hopefully be as simple update in the app to become available?

By continuous recording do you mean continuing to record once the car is off, a-la parking mode? I imagine that would require a hacked firmware... I actually was looking around trying to see if we could find a firmware for it as that would simplify going that route...

nah, as in the moment you start driving that the recording would be continuous.

Oh, so not breaking up into files at 1, 3 or 5 minute sections? That’s pretty standard as file sizes grow to crazy sizes. Not to mention these are how the continuous dvr recording works since it can just delete the oldest files. You’d need custom firmware to achieve this. Pretty unlikely without a lot of time and effort coupled with serious hacking skills.

What SD card are you guys using and what format? I tried to use a 200GB card thinking it would only use 32GB of that card but it doesn't want to work at all. When I have the card inserted, I get red lights and the camera powers down after a few minutes. When I eject the card, the blue lights come on and the camera stays on.

I think if you read it, there's a max GB card that it will take, like 120GB or something like that.

Anybody hooked the dashcam to rear fuse box? wondering which fuse you guys tapped into? The shop that installed mine tapped in fuse 203.. which I want to unplug to open up the exhaust. Just want to see which fuse I can transfer the tap from 203. any help would be appreciated.

I think the sd card needs to be fat32 capable. If you go large enough that you're forced into exfat it's not going to work. However you could *likely* make it work via linux and "rigging" a smaller partition size to accept fat32... Maybe.

I tapped the same fuse as discussed in the other dashcam threads here. Don't remember which it was right now.

Hey Guys,

i got the camera and trying to install it, but it seems the wiring that came with the camera have a smaller size fuse, than fuse 57, 44 etc, also the wire is coming out the side so i can't plug it in, any helP ?

so basically it is a mini fuse, but all the options on the fuse box are standard or micro, no minis.

Do i need a mini to standard adapter or do i cut the wire and use a fuse tap?
