M40i Exhaust tips flaking

Hi all

So a month ago my full exhaust system was replaced under warranty for a vibration issue.. happy.

Today I notice in one tail pipe that the black paint inside is flaking off to show chrome/steel ... not happy.

Anyone experienced this?

Strangely it's the tail pipe that stays clean as it's closed half the time too...

Calling the dealer tomorrow.... again :

I'd be calling the dealer on that one.

Curious can you PM your vibration issue?

Spending this money and seeing things like this makes me second guess myself. Crappy quality.

1 user with chipped exhaust doesn't mean everyone has this issue. I wouldn't jump to conclusions.

Suspect they are the original tips and a spanner monkey damaged the coating removing the from the exhaust.

The rear exhaust is a one piece part number, there aren't separate tips according to ETK. The new exhaust should have come with them installed.

It'll be interesting to see what their fix will be. I'm not sure how long a rattle can spray will last.

Correct- that's exactly what they're doing.

No damage caused by anyone, this is a brand new exhaust fitted a month ago. It would appear it's just a paint quality issue on this one.

Hi

There's a thread somewhere with the details.

A resonance on start up and at low revs and speed... approx 1200-2500 revs.

It was the muffler but they could not stop it so the result was a replacement exhaust system

My exhaust is flaking almost identically to the OP's pic. Only flaking on the left exhaust, not the right. I noticed it yesterday. My car is an early Sept 19 build and I've got just under 3k miles on it.

i'd encourage others to go check their exhausts.

On a previous car I owned, the owner of the shop that installed my aftermarket exhaust sprayed some high-temp flat black from a can into the inside of my tips to hide the transition from the pipe ends. I was a little skeptical at first, but it looked great and was still on there 10K miles later when I sold the car.

I checked mine yesterday and they look okay so far. Its interesting because our builds were about a week apart. I'm curious what your mileage is at?

I think I'm around 2500 on the clock.

Also nothing unusual on mine, early Oct build if I remember correctly. Took a 3 week vacation overseas so just over 1k miles. Appreciate the alert from OP and everyone else to go check!
