M Sport Package: Some confusing details
I have an M Sport on order and I know I'll be thrilled with it regardless, but before I build up my expectation for a few of the details of the package, only to be disappointed at delivery - I am wondering if anyone has any legitimate detailed answers to some of the questions that are confusing me and others. Even the BMW information seems misleading and vague at times, and the launch photos are so old it is hard to tell what has changed and what is for the US market, etc.
1. Package contains "Sports suspension delete". This I know to be true, but does that mean that it INCLUDES DDC (Dynamic Damping Control)? The package list, even on the BMW order form does not specify. 2. Is Variable Sport Steering still part of the package? 3. Do the 369M wheels (19" on 35i) come as a staggared set or are they all 18.5" due to the all season tires. Pretty sure I know the answer, but it's still speculation. All this will be much easier once someone somewhere in the US finally takes delivery of an M Sport.... but until then, just trying to find some solid information.

One question Answered!! (I think)
Okay, I'm about 99% sure I have answered question 1.
There is a 28i with M Sport on eBay and I closely examined the pictures... The vehicle has only these options: M Sport Premium SAT Metallic Paint And the interior shot clearly shows DDC installed. Ergo, the M Sport package deletes the Sports Suspension and adds DDC... see photos... the resolution sucks because they were small and I enlarged them to show the detail as best I could.

Hmmmm I was told that the MSport package does NOT include DDC from my Dealer.... Let me know what happens when you get your car.
Looking at the Window Sticker/Interior it would seem as if there is NO dynamic handling package but it still has DDC. |

Yep, that is my conclusion. Also, you can count on one hand the number of CA's in all of the US who know half as much about the product they sell as we know.
It could be covered by this: ZMP = (as we know) M Sport Package which includes - 225 Sport Suspension Delete but also includes - 337 M Sport Package Now, why would they list a numbered option with the same name as the package? There is no Premium Package inside ZPP, nor Cold Weather Package inside ZCW... My thinking is that they delete the sports suspension via 225 and then add DDC via 337, where M Sport Package = suspension option in this case.

Not in the US. The Performance Package is still an option, but they are not standalone options.

well this looks pretty obvious, they have the Damping control on the car without it as an option... of course BMWusa.com has no idea because at first they listed it on the con figurer but now its removed...
If its there, MSport is a no brainer to me |

It certainly adds additional value to the already much desirable M Sport package. But, as mine is already on order and scheduled for production next week - I guess I will find out soon enough.
I'm just not a big fan of surprises... especially when it comes to what equipment will or will not be in my custom ordered vehicle... they really need to put out more clear information on this.

If you go on to BMW's U.S. site and build an X3 while in "View Dash" mode you can clearly see the DDC button appear when the Dynamic Handling Package is checked. However; it doesn't appear if only the M Sport Package is checked. I was told by my CA that the "Sports suspension delete" is standard for all M Sport packages despite the vehicle. Supposedly an M Sport specific suspension is added. But as someone mentioned we seem to know more than the dealers in many instances. My CA wasn't even aware that DDC came on the X3 until I mentioned that the fully loaded X3 that I drove at the X3 event had it.

Poor job by BMW here of enumerating the M Sport package. Not all of us want it just for the "pretty wheels".

I really do not think this MSport confusion is going to go away until several of us get our cars, and can see exactly what we have. Also, the packages between countries can be different. There is a lot of speculation right now, but not much fact. BMW needs to do a better job of educating their sales people and making their country websites reflect reality. For eg, in Canada, the BMW Canada website doesn't even have the MSport pkg in it, it has the old Sport pkg that was gone as of March 31. I have sent a note to BMW Canada regarding this misleading info. Furthermore, BMW Canada (at least my dealership) doesn't even have a comprehensive brochure available yet - there is a one-page, fold over handout, but it has scant info in it.
Poorly done, BMW. Maybe some (the majority?) of today's BMW buyer doesn't care about "sport packages", "damper control", handling, etc; BUT many of us on here do care. And we are confused and annoyed.

Yes, I am looking forward to someone on this forum taking delivery of a 35i M Sport who can post tons of photos and give us all the tech details. Mine is probably still nearly a month away (maybe less) so I'm sure others will have them first.

So I ended up calling Momentum and talking to a rep about the 28i M-Sport being sold on eBay. I asked her to confirm if the Normal, Sport, Sport+ switch was indeed in the car as I was skeptical that they may have used different pictures for the vehicle. Her manager went and looked at the car being sold and confirmed that the switch is in the vehicle.
Then she looked at her internal system to check the configuration. I asked to her to send it to me and it's pasted below. Low and behold, Dynamic Damper Control is a part of M-Sport on a 28i!!!! After seeing the option list, I checked the sticker price picture again. I didn't see it earlier but the 4th line under M-Sport Package you can see that DDC is on the sticker! I did send a follow up email to confirm this, but if Damper control is included in M-Sport the info posted in other threads are incorrect, and certainly my understanding of what was included on a 28i! And if it's included, I can't see $1300 for DHP if you get M-Sport. As of now, I'm glad I haven't ordered yet but with this info, I'm definitely leaning M-Sport without DHP. I also sent her a note asking what 337 M-Sport is. This is still very confusing =S LOL.... guess no one will really know UNTIL they actually receive the car in person....
Is BMW always this unclear on their options or is this the first time it happened on their X3 model? |

This bodes well for us. As for 337, that probably includes all the interior parts such as the ///M footrest, ///M doorsill plates, and chrome cargo plate.

Right, because they will put more equipment into a 28i than a 35i.... I seriously doubt that, or we might be talking class action.

Configurator for BMWUSA no longer has DDC as part of the Dynamic Handling Package - nor is it listed anywhere as a stand alone option. Quite odd. I wonder if DDC has been rolled into the Sports Activity and M Sport packages.
It's an enigma wrapped in a riddle.... if only E90Fleet were still with us... he would know all the answers.
