X3 hit hard(ish) - will insurance try and repair it?
In a nutshell, sauntering along in a car park when a woman turned right at a T-section, ran very wide and absolutely nailed us (wife and kids in the car). She said her brakes failed, i suspect she hit the gas by mistake given the initial impact is on the front left and she hammers away until the rear left wheel. She did not slide into us, she hit us and continued to push once there was impact.
Regardless, I am getting a sense the insurance company is going to try and save this thing. I have replacement at about $20K with the wreck worth maybe $7K (engine is fine and only has 50,000 miles on it). So the tipping pint is circa $13K. My concern is the b-pillar frame, it seemed to do a brilliant job but i am uneasy about driving the car again given it has received quite the whack. Thoughts, feelings? |

If the B pillar is pushed in, insurance will probably total the car out.

i believe if damage cost is 55% of car value, then its total.
1 new driver side wheel 1 driver side fender 1 driver side front door 1 driver side rear door it may reach $10k with paint and labor |

Front end is screwed, wheels do not respond to steering input so something major is broken under there.

Glad everyone is okay. Is the rear fender smashed too? You're getting close on just bodywork, add in the steering arm and potentially more and you're very likely totaled.

NO insurance will TLV @ 55%. I work in the industry, the lowest percentage is 70% now, some will fix all the way to 90%.

Wait what really? Why not total the car only if repairs are 100% of car value? At 55% aren't insurance loosing money if they are giving a higher payout due to car value than paying less to repair it...?

it all depends on state laws, so far i have seen 70%-80% actual cash value. Now that seem pretty high number. if car is worth $50k, the repairs cost $35k then how much is the car worth after repairs with an accident?

That is more than $10k. There is also some suspension damage front left. Probably a new left rear wheel as well, going by the marks on the tire that lead to the wheel.

I'm in Texas and we have 100% threshold. Yet I've had three cars totaled in the last four years, none of which were over three years old and only one had airbags deploy.

The salvage amount is subtracted from the total replacement cost. 30% is industry average for how much they can get at auction, therefore ~70% of total value is what it takes to get a car written off. I just went through this with a brand new Audi S5 Sportback.

Approximate 75%. But it varies from state-to-state and insurance company to insurance Company.
Wow, that lady was quite an idiot. I hope she received a big ticket. Hopefully, they take her off the road. Did she even apologize? |

Add in that there are always repairs that weren't visible originally so using less than 100% avoids the insurance company paying out more than 100%.
