So I guess they’ll update the interior & fit the new style single piece kidney grill in the 2021 update then?

What’s the new steering wheel? Is it the M performance one with Alcantara?

Oh right! Didn't realise there was a new M sports steering wheel with the iDrive 7.0 generation of cars. Cheers

Does iD7 mean the updated HUD as seen on the new 3, or is there no connection there?

I'd imagine the HUD updates with iDrive - it's part of the same OS right? Unless you are talking about something more than a software change?

My dealer confirmed the new Live View dash and iDrive 7 is from 2nd September, so I'll be requesting a post 2/9 build slot.

HUD hasn't increased in size from what I could find out, but we believe it will have the updates like RPM in the HUD as that is operating system dependent.

In Australia, all of these changes are from August production, as per guide.

Yes, confirmed at least for Australia. The dealers have a page showing the change of the buttons on it here. The configurator here in Australia is still only showing the 260kw engine as well and some other older bits.

I requested an ordering guide from my local dealer to see if I can find anything hidden for the US market regarding the seats

The X4 guide is available and has been posted, but I don't think the X3 guide is available yet. If you manage to get one, please post it for us all!

haloboy, you've been awesome in this thread (and I'm sure in life in general )!

I was wondering whether it would be possible for you to reproduce the Oz dealer guide and post it? It seems to have a lot of the data that we've all been looking for but is not available elsewhere.

Just thought I'd ask . . .

I don't think the Australian order guide is going to be any help to us yanks. All of the German carmakers spec cars differently for different markets. Models, colors, standard features, etc. are different.

In addition, a bigger engine or more power doesn't necessarily translate to better performance, because transmission gearing and tire sizing are also factors. thehaloboy in post #105 above noted that even with the increased engine power, acceleration spec is the same as before. That tells me there's a very good chance that gear ratios have been updated at the same time. The reason to do this is to improve fuel economy without changing performance.

So those of us in North America need to temper our expectations with regard to the changes coming for us. I think it's safe to assume that we'll get ID7 and the new gauges, but everything else isn't confirmed until it's confirmed, and I doubt very seriously that more horsepower is going to give us any benefit other than improved fuel economy, by about 1 mpg probably.

Well I wish I was a kid with lessons like these to be learned, but I've been driving BMWs for 35 years and I'm pretty familiar with how it all works. Many others on this board are as well.

Mechanicals usually are the same. So as you say, it would be odd if the US didn't get the Live Cockpit Pro and iD7. The US MY20 X4 guide already confirms Pro and we haven't seen Pro without iD7. Similarly, we often don't get the M steering wheel, especially in the first year of production for some odd reason. The first time I remember that happening was the new MY97 E39 540 with the new-for-that-time "Sport Package". We didn't get the newly developed MSport steering wheel until the second production year and that's repeatedly happened on many models ever since. However, it would be odd for the ROW to get one M wheel and us to get another. What we really can't take for granted is whether we'll get some of the more upscale options. We know BMWNA is trying to bifurcate the 3/X3 from the 4/X4. So just because the ROW's 3/X3 has gotten/will get Individual merino interiors, it doesn't mean that we will. Similarly, the availability of the M Sport seats is not a given here. Again, we already know that they're not included in the MY20 X4 guide.

Educated BMW consumers (of which there are many on these boards) can draw educated conclusions by seeing the details of guides from other parts of the world. Some of those conclusions may prove wrong. Most will not. So the Australian order guide may in fact prove to be a lot of help, at least to this Yank.

That's interesting, the 5 series in same situation only get updated with id7 but old msports wheel as well. 7 is LCI and get new wheel. Do you mind post that image?

I cant post that page, as it was on a computer screen. It was sent to all BMW Australia dealers on the changes for the August production. It showed red on buttons that were removed on the steering wheel, and green circles on the ones added, making it the same as the new 3 series I had been driving.

I guess I didn't state my point well enough. I simply meant that there is no reason to assume anything. "Educated conclusions" is just another phrase meaning making assumptions, which I don't do. An assumption about US specifications on the upcoming X3 based on Australian specifications, or anyone else's, is pointless and valueless. You said "So the Australian order guide may in fact prove to be a lot of help..." Inherent in that statement is that you don't know whether it will be of help until AFTER we get the new US order guide, but obviously at that point the Australian one becomes moot. Therefore, logically, the Australian order guide is of no help currently or in the future.

It’s good for speculation purposes which keeps us entertained no matter who the information applies to. I’ve been keeping tabs on the German forums.

The real value of the Aus spec will be to Australians like myself - thanks thehaloboy!
