Camera control box location

I'm considering adding a reversing camera to my 2012 X3. I was under the impression that the camera control box is mounted to the same bracket as the audio amplifier. I took a look in there and it looks like the combobox is already in that position. Am I looking in the wrong place or is there just something I'm missing?

I don't have your VIN, but if I look for the location on my 2014, everything says it's behind the panel on the driver's side rear compartment. I was not able to find an actual photo of it's precise location. It looks to be a silver metal box roughly the size of two packs of cigarettes side-by-side. But if you have no camera currently, why would you have a control box?

First a clarification. I can't count the number of times I've seen the name combox and read it as combobox. Anyway...

Looking behind the left side panel in the back, I see two boxes. The top one is the combox for telematics. The bottom is the audio amplifier. If you purchase the reversing camera retrofit kit (PN 66212183723), it includes the bracket the modules in the picture are mounted on. I pulled up pictures of the camera control module. The mounting option for that module would only work in the bottom position where the amp is. Maybe the amplifier piggybacks on the camera control module.

I think I've figured it out. I'll bet the camera module goes in the lower position on the backside. The amp remains on the front side.

Interesting, is there something that shows you where modules are located?

I got busy today - I'll do it in the morning. Or you could just stop by! I'm in Denver too.

No hurry. I've got a list of projects waiting on the weather to improve. I'm on the west side near Morrison. What part of town are you in?

This is a pic of my 2014. On the bottom is the amp, and on top is the bluetooth/telematics box. If I reach behind the telematics box on top I can feel the backup camera control box on the backside. I thought it would show a bit in this pic but it really doesn't. But it looks and feels like the pics I've seen of one, even though I obviously did not remove enough to see the part number. But I'm sure that's it.

Thank you! I guess it's time to start gathering parts.
