I'll do a straight swap with you for my 2.0D M-Sport... No popping, no crackling, smooth as a babies bottom... What it lacks in Exhaust noises, it makes up with howling wind noise through the gap in the window (that the BMW dealership are deaf too)

Wild thread. OP bought a flamethrower and hates the fact that it's more extreme than a butane lighter because essentially, they both do the same thing.

You couldn't make this stuff up if you tried.

No pops, cracks or bubbles in comfort and adaptative mode that have enough sportiness in everyday life. A tighter mode ? Sport individual with engine setting in comfort.

These pops are not essential to my life but I grow to find them funny. My children love them !!!

Recently, a sport car rally took place near my house and I could hear all those pops and craks. Maybe those Porsches were bad tuned cheap cars :-)

Tesla should be worth a look for performance quiet cars IMO.

Our i30 is near Tesla like (with 400+ range+). That's the way we like it, and we're not annoying other folks....

So a M3 and M4 is comparable to an SUV now? I didn't expect the fanboys to like the opinion but o wells. I agree those should pop. But I still confidently state a full track built BMW will not pop as much as this SUV. Why would you comprising tuning on a track car for some exhaust pops? Yea that makes a lot of sense lol As well as the GT3 that someone mentioned. I mean obviously idk what point you were making saying a GT3 pops but ok thanks for stating the obvious. It isn't even a full M car, far from it actually. The pops were exaggerate for effect and no performance gain. No one is piping up saying it adds more power. Like I said if your an average low level car enthusiast you think its cool. But this isn't a full on performance car. Its a mild performance SUV. How much different is this compared to a massive useless pipe on a Honda? I agree the sound is better obviously, but its the same concept. Marketing not performance.

Um no, the whole post is kinda stating that. As well as my first post. I baffles me how people have such a hard time reading.

To also note for the haters. I will 100% be buying a true X3M and I expect it will have some pops and bangs. O but guess what! Its a true M car! But i'll also bet it will have valves to kill the pops without killing performance. Call me crazy again but I just might be right.

Cars should be QUIET! I love tight handling, I love quick response,BUT THIS HORRIBLE NOISE has got to go. Is there any way in heck that I can shut up the exhaust back-firing noise, without being in only comfort mode.

Anyone know how to get rid of it. They did on my 3 series years ago.
Sounds like you purchased the wrong vehicle. In the past BMW listened to these complaints and turned all of their cars into german Lexuses. There's plenty of vehicles that are quiet and don't have the "Horrible" noise that you hate. Why did you pick the car that's too noisy for you?

Pops kill performance? How so? The pops happen while decelerating, how does that effect performance? They also happen in between shifts. I like to know how does that kill performance?

It's people like this that BMW listened to and decided to make german lexuses about a decade ago. A move that they are only now starting to recover from. And guess which vehicle started the recovery? The X3 M40i

So you complain about the pops and bangs and you're gonna get a car that has even more and louder pops and bangs? I suppose you can drive it in Efficient mode all the time but then what's the point? :
Btw I do have a real M car and unless you are in Efficient mode the pops and bangs are like 200% louder than the X3. Just get a Tesla

Meh, I have a 120k sports car and have owned several real race cars(full ride Pro Mod driver for 12 years, Outlaw Street driver for 10 years) and I think the M40 is awesome and sounds god. If you don't like it, sell it.

I don't think it's a mild performance SUV either. With a mild tune a lot of us are running low 12's and 3.9-4.1 second 0-60. There isn't a lot of SUVs that can do that. Stock it is no slouch either.

You don't really sound like you know much about cars.

Honestly I begin to wonder if it was just trolling. There was an obvious solution to exactly what was being asked for, stated repeatedly but was somehow never acknowledged by OP. Also some other outrageous things were said like wanting to keep things sporty but also saying 3k RPM is outrageously high.

I don't really care if it was trolling, I have no problem trying to be helpful regardless and try not to let things become inflammatory. Just kind of strange though.
