How is being based on the X3 and the CLAR architecture bespoke?

Big improvement over the previous generation, though.

If you are really bad at taking decisions, this is probably the perfect buy.. it's something of everything.. like poop.
Anyway, the kind of people driving this car, that's actually the worst part about it. (Speaking for Germany)

No Offense guys, but these cars are not BMW. That's simply increasing revenue and moving BMW away from it's traditional values. If you like the old BMW, how could you not hate what's happening to the Brand? :/
I like "old" BMWs, and I have recently owned both the E92M and F80.

But the G01/G02 are perfect for me, not at all pointless. Just in the past 2 weeks, I've had to fit a 65" HDTV, and over 200 books for my kid's school (not both at the same time).

What BMW 'car' could have done that? And don't say F31. Having already owned two F30-gen cars, I'm getting tired of them, and their tech is officially old. I also have two young kids. G01 has a considerable amount of additional room vs. the F30/F31/F80, enough for a 3rd kid to squeeze in the back between my two boosters. Many times, it's the difference between taking 2 vehicles vs. 1.

I don't need something as bulky as an X5, and a 5 series is just sloppy compared to X3 M40i.

Not all of us have roads as good as Germany's. During my normal commute, the M3 could be downright brutal due to poor roads/construction. My X3 makes normal driving a real pleasure, and it's not too bad on a twisty road.

It is amazing! Also, the new iDrive with 10.25" screen is really a standout feature of the G01/G02.

That stamping is on the B-pillar. G01 has it as well.

Tbh I don't like the look of this car. Mainly because of the huge grills and proportions of the rear slope.

But honestly the rear lights look badass. But let's face it and be real here. We might not like it today but def more appealing then first Gen. & I may actually buy this. Def beats driving on terrible roads in a 3 series or 4 series

The badge on the back says m40d but the text only describes the m40i. I guess the m40i will be sold everywhere but the m40d not in North America

The sketch looks bad ass. Slimmer headlights, thinner kidneys surrounding borders, absence of the LED foglights and trim element. We can see where the designer wanted to go.

But i still think it looks good, and it'll sell, despite all the hate, and that promo video.

Hmm the rear isn't as bad as the initial spy shots. But I bet this thing will become real ugly fast in white with base model wheels.

BTW were those photos shot in Florida? I'd kill to be somewhere so beautiful and sunny right now.

Get used to the grill size I think they have a good proportion. But the upcoming X5 and X7 - watch out for those monsters!

Actually virtually all mid to large SUVs have really large grills these days. In fact when I see the F15 on the streets, the kidneys look on the small size compared to other vehicles.

I REALLY wanted to like this car thinking X4M possible replacement to my M3. I just can't get over that rear and side profile. from the side it has a weird cut in the back, and the rear view looks too much like the GLC which I hate the looks of (too bubbly). I wasn't a huge fan of the current X4 (like the X6 proportions better) but liked the rear on it a lot more.

probably will just go with the X3M as it will look better, wonder how the driving dynamics will compare between them. would love for BMW to make a M4 GC, but don't think that will ever happen (RS5 sportback competitor).

Who's the genius who decided to launch this in red, effectively drowning the key design element of the car, which are these all-new very slim tail lights, instead of highlighting it? The spyshot uncovered white prototypes looked way better.

Same remark goes for the 8 Series which seemingly is going to be launched in red/orange.

I agree, but i recall reading somewhere that the 8er will be launched in a shade of blue similar to the concept. Maybe the M8 might be red as a throwback to the first M8 prot.

That's a subjective judgment.

There a plenty of people that might care for the X4 for their own subjective reasons (command driving position, etc.). Why do they need to pay homage in their purchasing decisions to what you or I think a BMW should be? For that matter, why should BMW avoid serving this cohort?

For context, I am die-hard M-car guy (I own/owned a 1M, three generations of M3, and F85 X5M and am building on an S54 swapped E46 Touring)... and I am happy to see BMW produce as many models/types of cars necessary to remain profitably independent.
Well said. Some guys just think we all have to think like them. You can't please everyone. It's usually the whiners and complainers that have the loudest voices. If a new iPhone comes out, here comes the trolls telling us Apple sucks. It's the same here. Every single thread in these forums has at least 1 negative nelly. Just have to ignore them.

Kids in here are asking, "Why BMW, why?" There's a reason BMW is building these cars. There's a demand for them. Maybe we like the way it looks. Maybe some of us want a car that has a command seating, a SUV that drives like a car and handles some minor offroading, handles bad roads that a 3 series can't, has a bigger trunk than a 3 series, etc. My 2009 335xi went over a very small pothole on the highway. Knocked loose the headlights and the light beams pointed down. Brought it into the shop and they said they couldn't fix it and that it's a straight replacement. You know how much those light units cost?! Good thing I had a good relationship with the service center. They comped those lights. (Warranty was over.) My X3, X4, and X5 went over bigger potholes....no problems.
