I am still running my original TPMS on my 2011 535xi, bought in July 2011.

Got the 19" wheels and winter tires mounted today, pretty good for just a bit more than the cost of winter 20" tires. Tires are still dirty from the mounting lubricant.

$200 each on TireRack. Moda MD26 19" They're just a slightly higher offset than OEM but I like that for winter.

I did have a problem though, I ordered a set for the BMW and a set for the wife's Volvo. The Volvo set came with the TPMS sensors for the BMW installed, so I had to take them down and get them I mounted and fixed. Just don't buy multiple sets at once from TireRack!

Thanks for all the information on here guys!

I've just gone ahead and ordered the Autec Kitano 19 black wheels from www.tyreleader.co.uk - similar price to the ebay seller that teaston recommended.

And I've ordered the TPMS from ebay:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4Pcs-NEW-...97.m4902.l9144

I've used my preferred tyre shop (Blackboots in Chesham www.blackboots.co.uk) to order the tyres. They're not the cheapest but they look after my wheels and have always done a great job. They will fit and balance tyres to my new wheels and they will do the swap over of wheels onto my car.

I've gone for the Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 245/50 R19.

Good job. I have the same wheels (in black).

You know now it will be a mild winter!

Good choice! Are those tyres run flats?

Nice work MattXYZ 👍
I would probably prefer to get from UK site as opposed EBay.

Think this may have been answered already in here, but the OEM caps fit don't they?

Tyreleader aren’t UK based mate, they’re based in Andorra and all their orders are shipped from various places in continental europe.

I got the same Tire, let see how they hold up when winter hit.

I am a bit worry as someone mention for performance winter, it is only just a bit better then A/S. I hope it is not the case.

I'm having **a lot** of difficulty in finding my preferred Nokian Hakka snow tires in 245/50 x19 to run on stock BMW 19" wheels for my inbound 2020 X3 M40

Will 255/55 x19 clear the front suspension, or would I be better off with 235/55x19 snow tires?

Thanks in advance!

They're only slightly better in snow and ice than European A/S tyres, which are the same as US All Weather tyres. US A/S tyres are much more summer biased.

235/55 19" are a little small, but within the range of tires that TireRack recommends for the car. That's what I settled on. The narrower tread will do well in the snow too.

At only $159 a tire you might consider the VikingContact 7. Several tests have shown that it outperformed the Hakka and others, and where it didn't most tires were within 1-2 meters (e.g stopping distance from 80km/h).

1st place in Norwegian magazine testing:

https://alltyretests.com/continental...7-test-review/

1st place in non-studded category:

http://www.skstuds.ca/2019/02/14/201...ed-by-the-naf/

All told though the test results made it clear to me that performance wise all of these tires are pretty close.

Speedometer off

After switching to winter wheels (19" 245/50/R19 to 18" 225/60/R18) I notice the speedo is off by a fair bit. I understand that if the new wheels are smaller diameter the speedo will read higher, but something else is going on here. The winter wheels and tires sizes are what BMW offered for my vehicle and the tire calculator I used showed them to be almost identical in diameter, as do my own measurements. It seems to be off by 10-15 km/h. Is there anything else that affects the speed reading other than wheel rotation? These are non-runflats (Pirelli Sotto Zero 3), inflated to 33 psi, no TPMS sensors. Any ideas?

Maybe because they don't have TPMS sensors your car thinks they're spare wheels? The spare wheel is 135/80R18 so it would put the speedo out by almost 10kph at 110kph

Why don't they have TPMS sensors? And what are you comparing the cars speed to, in order to record its inaccuracy?

That's a huge variance, even assuming freeway speeds. Such a speedo difference wouldn't be due to any minor size differences.

I got the 691 Winter Set from a PNW dealer. They had them on sale for 10% off so after 100 rebate, they ended up being ~2200.

That's what I am wondering. I didn't put the TPMS sensors in these because being non-rft I can monitor pressure the old fashioned way. The iDrive pressure reset obviously doesn't work and stalls at 19%, so I don't know what it is thinking if it can't reset. I don't have anything to calibrate, but having driven the roads so often one gets a sense of what the speed feels like and relative to other traffic, which tends to be consistent.
