I'm also interested in whether the mud flaps actually do fit on a M40i. On the website getbmwparts.com, specifying 2019 X3 M40i, they show these

https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...50-82162410525 front & 526 rear

The implication is that they fit the 2019 X3 M40i. My local BMW service dept says that for my specific M40i VIN, they won't fit, because I have the MSport aero package, which I presume all M40i have.

So, those who say the installed them, did they have to fiddle to make them fit?

I’m skeptical of this until we see pictures of the install.

Mud Flap installation for 2018 BMWx3 factory mud flaps

Looking for some guidance or installation pictures etc for the mud flaps. I noticed on the forum here it has great info for these and I have a big question on the ones that have been posted. You Mention on the marked up pictures drill holes (what size holes) and need to provide bolts ( what size did you use and we’re they self tapping etc) sorry for the questions but I will not be installing these. Our local garage will be doing this and I wanted them to have all the necessary parts that are required. Your guidenence is appreciated. Thanks

Not so bad. I did a corner at a time. Need to drill out some of the plastic rivets and replace. I also used some 2 sided foam tape mostly cus I didn’t want the sharp edges of new plastic mark up the paint. You’ll see what I mean.

The installation look tight (or is that "lit" as what my kids say these days).

What sort of double sided foam tape is that for reference? I'm assuming then that that foam side is what's touching the paint surface?

The OP's installation steps, appreciate the DYI details.

Local dealer service shop quoted 2 hours of labor. Fair enough. But at $165/hr.

I think that alone is encouraging me to give this a go myself.

fit nice and tight. Used gorilla glue mounting tape (sticky on both sides) cut to aprox 1/8 inch wide.

Thanks.

I must not be following this. When you can, how is this double sided tape applied in your last picture, along which plastic edges to stay away from the paint?

Leith BMW in Raleigh quoted 0.5 the price, installed at $150. Still, for something that is (totally) DIY.

Hmm....

From the pictures, can't be certain but looking under the car, perhaps i'm having to drill hole on the steel/metal?

Or, all holes are into plastic that just need a shallow puncture to make new hole?

Just a shallow hole in the plastic fender well. I wouldn’t be keen on drilling holes on any metal or other painted surface.

To anyone done this on your own as DYI and took the time to do it well, i salute you...

Came back from the Leith BMW dealer from their $150 mudflaps installation, by so called BMW master tech.

Good grief...

As usual wife accepts. For me,

Well, at least i can cross off this from her bucket list...

Old guy says, "Be careful blaming your wife. She represents 1/2 of your net worth". It looks like you have the BMW OEM mudflaps. That's how they fit on the M Sport body. They are designed for the standard trim levels (black plastic lower and fender edge trim). Without lots of care and trimming what your pictures show is how they are going to fit. A couple of people here (see Automobilia's postings in this thread) have sourced some aftermarket (eBay) mudflaps that appear to fit somewhat better. There's more info here: https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1301067 . Jeepersjoey has photos of his installation of the BMW OEM mudflaps on the M Sport body. His photos look pretty similar to yours.
