Mud Flap install on g01 x3
Greetings all. I just finished installing mud flaps on my x3. I have a place in the mountains with rock and mud roads so they are must to keep the vehicle remotely free of mud. I wanted to share the installation process as they did not come with instructions and the dealer had non on file to share. They were a little more difficult to install than the others I have installed in the past as you have to drill out the old plastic rivets and also drill new holes for rivets and make holes for new bolts. They are not going anywhere. All in all, I’d say you can definitely do it yourself if you are handy at all. I hope this helps and sorry m-sport owners, no mud flap love for you. 😉
Just a few install tips: 1. Turn front wheels out to make it easier to access bolts in the wheel well. 2. The rear is a tight fit but can be done without removing the wheels. 3. Be sure to dry fit to ensure you know what needs to be flexed for a tight fit. |

Nice work. Thx for photos. Wish they would make some for the M40i's.

Why is that, is it the trim around the wheel wells? I have an i30 m-sport and would love these.
edit- I found the chart for these. How can they be listed to work with the M40i at the same time won't fit m-sport packages?

G01 X3 Mud Flaps Sets - BMW (82-16-2-410-525)
Here is where I got my OEM floor mats the flaps are also on this page. https://www.getbmwparts.com/c-g01-x3-2018--280 They have a parallel listing on EBay. They just replied: The fitment listing was incorrect and has been amended. The shape of the front and rear bumpers is different, which means the mounting of the mudflaps is different as well. They will not fit any M sport or M Aero models. Thanks,

I have written and inquired several places. The inclusion of M40i is a mistake in these listings. Aero package on the M40i & M-Sport ed. are not compatible with these flaps. At least, I've now been told this by 3 sources. |

Having had quite a few bmw’s over the years, it seems to be the norm that BMW never releases mud flaps for the msport models. This is not to say they won’t, if the demand is strong they may. For now aftermarket may be the way to go.

bmtespar - thanks for the directions. Picked up a new X3 for the wife this week. Sad to see our 2005 325XI go for a trade-in. I picked up a set of splash guards knowing that this post existed. They of course wanted a service charge to install them at the dealer. As you said there were no directions. My only comment is I think you have the rear pics marked wrong as to left and right. A note to all is the rear set install differently. The fronts are easy and are a mirror image of each other. Take your time and pre-fit them on the X3 before starting since the rear set has 2 pieces each. It did make the rear much easier to install by removing the tire, but I already had a BMW setup for my jack.

It helps a great deal. There is still some mud splash on the front rocker sill but minimal. I have a cabin in the mountains that is all gravel roads and the mud flaps are a must for me. I had a loaner x3 for a week and it got a lot more mud splash without the mud flaps.

Also Installed..
I also installed the subject mud flaps. They were relatively easy to install. I cut off the extra tab on the rear left (drivers side) flap since it seemed unnecessary and looked out of place.
Thanks for the heads up and instructions previously provided. |

Thanks, the pictures were immensely helpful. I just installed them and they look great.
I have no idea what you would cut off. Nothing looked extraneous to me. I couldn't drill out the rear plastic rivets at first. I ended up borrowing a jack because neither of my cars come with jacks anymore. Jacking up the rear is almost necessary in order to a) drill out that rivet, and b) screw out/in the innermost screw that you reuse. Even then, I had to just use a wrench to manually twist out the screw. I have a 90 degree and straight on socket wrench, but neither fit had enough space to work with the tire in the way. I'm not super handy, but I thought this was pretty easy. The most important thing by far is to dry fit and work out what you need to do beforehand. For example, the mud guards fit over an existing screw on the bottom of the car, but you need to place the mud guards just right for them to fit over the screws. |

Someone asked about how well the mudflaps work at deflecting splash and splatter. Here are two pics of my very dirty x3 after driving up a mountain to my cabin. The back avoids splash all together while the front mudflaps allow a little splash on the lower rocker panel.

I ran into the same thing on my 335I M-Sport; BMW specs say they don't fit, but not an issue.
