Just wanted to check with you guys, how the 'media' button responds when you press it...

When using Apple Carplay for music (Spotify) I used to be able to switch Audio source/input/mode with the 'media' button above the iDrive controller.
Easy to switch from Spotify to radio or music collection on the internal drive.

Due to continues audio problems with my HK system, they now switched the amp and rear-speakers.

Also they told me, they've reset the iDrive software. Could be called an update...

Now, the 'media' button doesn't respond when pressing it while listening to Spotify on APC.
It works when in the iDrive menu or in APC when Spotify isn't active... Just no response when in active Spotify...

Really annoying that it doesn't work anymore!
I'm able to switch audio sources by pressing 'mode' button on the dash or on steering wheel.. but the screen stays on Spotity.
Only way is to go to the main menu or select the BMW app in APC.

Hopefully this is a new 'feature' in the updated software, although I'm worried it wasn't updated and it's something else.

Why I think it's something else;

The new amp look completely different than the original one..
After the switch the overall audio seems poorer and initial problem still exists.
Of course I told em that and they now again will contact HQ what to do..
But later I noticed this 'new behavior' of the media button and started raging even more...
Thinking it's due to the other amp working different or I don't know...... just pissed off about the whole situation...
Love the car, but keep having trouble with HK system...

I have MB-006.017.006. It came that way when bought a year ago. I am able to switch between media sources like you described. Although the screen remains on APC and Spotify.

And if you switch from Spotify to radio for example, with the media button, it stays on the ACP screen?
And if you hit the Media button again, then it changes to the radio-screen?

Should be ACP sorry.. but indeed Apple CarPlay.

You think it's an update to iDrive 7?
Thought that iDrive 6 couldn't be updates to 7...?

Found some posts on a German forum with the same complaints.
After this update, what seems to be an update to iDrive 7, a lot of basic Spotify functions went downhill...

Hopefully a new update will come quickly...

Your "media" button still works like it did on my system before the update.
Now it doesn't do anything when in ACP.
Even noticed that sometimes I cannot even get back into the ACP app and need to change source and then go back to ACP again.

Easy of use has gone downhill a lot.

And due to my SW version: MB-007.005.013 I think I'm on iDrive 7.
Still haven't found how I can verify that... Asking BMW engineers tomorrow.

I have a Bluetooth problem with CarPlay. If there are two phones in the car and you switch them to use CarPlay on the phone not chosen originally --- it does not properly drop the BT on the phone that it was first working on. The result is that it looks like it is functioning, but it can't be selected because the BT on the second phone is not connecting properly because the first phone is still connected.

In order to fix this problem, the person with the original phone has to go into their phone settings and disconnect the BT.

This happens frequently when my wife and I are traveling together and we want to switch what phone is being used.

The second problem/oversight.... The phone utilized is not tied to the persona that is selected. Wouldn't it be nice if it selected my phone when I was driving and my wife's phone when she was driving? Seems logical, but the phone selection is completely independent of all other settings.

Has anyone had any luck getting the media button fixed? I've escalated this up to the executive level, which they have acknowledged is broken, advised they dont have a fix for it and offered a 1 month car payment.

Yesterday, I discovered this was happening to me, as well. I don't know if anything changed recently, I just started using Carplay a week or two ago. I had to go to Menu, then Media. Annoying.

Here is the contact I have been working with at BMW. I think part of the problem is this appears to only effect the x3 m40i and since there are not that many of them, they are pushing this issue aside. Perhaps if more of us contact them about the issue?

I got my vehicle in January and it's always behaved as you've described. The media button does nothing if I'm in CarPlay.

Have the X3 m20i..

It occurred after an update.
So hopefully a next update will fix it again.

Also ACP doesn't respond completely sometimes.
Have to switch to radio or HD to get it playing again. Sometimes even need to restart car.

I have the 30i and the problems started after they updated the software to fix the backup camera issue. Idrive version is now at 's'

I see that 'u' is out, wonder if that fixes the issues
