they use the same principle plastic valve cover on the b58 they were "smart" enough to add a 10 cent stamped metal drip tray to the side of the engine head so when this valve cover decides to leak at <50k miles at least it won't land on the turbo/exhaust manifold. Thanks BMW

Excuse my ignorance, but what's the big deal if some oil gets on the turbo/exhaust manifold? Isn't it made of metal? What's the worst that could happen besides it gets dirty?

Side question: What would be a good interval to replace valve cover gaskets, etc? I'm planning to keep this car over 100k miles.
