Hi everyone! This is my first post here, as I am looking to purchase a used E83 from someone on Kijiji. I've been owning a E90 for the past 6 years so I'm not new to the BMW scene, but I have a question specific to the E83 and hope you folks can help.

The owner says the rear wiper is not working properly, in that it would turn itself on or off at random moments such as when the vehicle is started. As such, he took the wiper arm and blade off so it won't cause damage for times when the blade is frozen to the glass, for example.

My question is, what could be the source of the malfunction, and would it be an expensive fix if I end up buying this vehicle? Being able to see behind the vehicle is a safety issue so this could be a deal-breaker for me.
