Max, Thanks for the reply. On the ASD bypass you mentioned, is it not enough to just remove the fuse like on the G01? Are you using a different method, and if so what?

Exact same method for bypassing as we did in our G01s. I was unsure if the ASD is being routed a bit differently in the F97 given the 'enhanced engine sound' button in the center console. But I have zero background in Electronics so I'm just guessing.

Given my lack of knowledge, I can't say whether pulling the fuse would interrupt the circuit the same as in the G01, if the F97's circuit now is also needed to allow the flap to stay open, (if that one button can control both)? Perhaps others with this background can comment.

As you know if you've read the G01 'How to disable ASD...' thread, my main reason for choosing that method rather than pulling the fuse or coding if off was to make it completely plug in and forget it, knowing it will be invisible to the system and service issues with updating software and the like.

Would be interesting to see if the same choices exist with the F97, though. It seems IMHO they ramped the ASD even more in the F97 (which makes sense for the Enthusiast population buying these performance vehicles I guess), so I'm pleased to once again get the real HK sound back without the muddy fake engine noise background.

Thanks! And here's an image of the engine compartment, confirming that even early Sep builds are not receiving the CFRP strut brace.

Another good observation, nyalpine90!

I'm embarrassed to say I had to go out into the garage to look at them both side-by-side! Not an excuse, but I just haven't had the time to sit down and read through the manual yet, so thanks for pointing it out. Here are a few images side-by-side. I switched the exterior views to grey scale as the lighting and reflections in the garage were all over the place, so I hope it shows OK.

X3M definitely has more aggressive lines on front bumper!

I was thinking about trying to take some images of both side-by-side as they're BSM/Black interiors, but with the configurators showing such clear images nowadays on the build sites, it's probably easier to just do a build of each, screen capture images from similar views, then place together for a more accurate comparison.

We liked the car.
It had 6kms on the clock so I didn't push the S58.
It is a bit more comfy than my F80 zcp and it drives less harsh (thanks to the 8AT).
Right now I am thinking « why not for my first suv? ».

Here is a pic (it's like yours :-) )

Great all around, you can’t go wrong. That is why we added one to the stable.

Glad you enjoyed the drive! Although we've only had her less than a week, I get a sense this will be my all-time favorite. The handling is so precise, the turns so beautifully balanced, and the acceleration ...

We have a 600 mile trip coming up in a few weeks which should be a lot of fun. Thanks for sharing the great image, and good luck with your decision!

What an amazing combination of utility and performance for our family - thanks BMW! Much has been written in reviews and in M Town Drives (mine included) so I won't repeat here, but it absolutely meets my expectations. Still have a few settings to tweak, but I've got everything moved over from the G01 so now just need some time to familiarize with the driving experience.

Definitely one of the most perceptive (if that's the correct term) vehicles I've ever driven, most likely because of it's M engine/transmission and suspension components I guess. I know there has been some comments on low RPM lag, but I drove in manual shift mode all day today so can't comment on that - to me it seems lightning quick. And I must not be accustomed to plush rides as the suspension seems great to me (in Comfort - haven't tried Sport yet), unlike many who have complained of such.

And for those interested, I was able to use the ASD Bypass harness from the G01 which I installed this morning. As I suspected, now pushing the 'engine sound' button on the center column does little while driving with the ASD bypassed, so I still think it must just be augmenting the artificial engine sound inside the cabin for those who desire such. As I enjoy music while driving, I can say the bypass has markedly improved the sonic fidelity (just as it did for us in our personal opinion in our G01).
Best looking X3 M I have seen yet- Awesome!

BSM Reflections

After a quick hand wash and blow dry this morning, the reflection off the hood made me literally stop - like I was looking in a mirror. Although BSM can be tough to keep clean it is times like this it's worth it!

I wish they would have done more for an aggressive rear end and put some meat back there for tires.

I understand. Your MB has an aggressive and powerful aesthetic and many performance Enthusiasts do gravitate to that look.

But I have to think the Design and Engineering teams at M Division had excellent reasons for developing it as they did. I don't know what those are, but I know they are certainly capable of designing such - just look at their other lines. Since they aren't the best at sharing their ideas or reasons for making them we'll never know the 'why'. Surely, though, there must be some degree of aerodynamics/handling/SSF/... indications for not doing so.

As an aside, I am really enjoying this F97. My first M vehicle, despite years of reading about them and following threads on the Forums (mainly the M5 variants), but this is amazing. I can't say I agree with others who say it rides too stiff, or has too much lag, or isn't luxurious enough. But I don't have the background in high-end performance luxury vehicles so hard for me to debate such.

Only 250 miles in, but once 1,200 miles is reached, I plan to buy a Dragy and also try some formal drag runs. I've never done that either, so hopefully they'll go easy on the newbie. From what I've read it is a great group of folks who like to help each other out and just enjoy the Sport.

Agree BSM looks awesome on your X3 MC. I'm biased though as I have it on my M3.
