Carplay Coding and Warranty
I'm interested in coding Apple Carplay with Enet cable, but I'm worried about the warranty because the car is 2 weeks old now.
Does it void the warranty? Will it cause other issues (iDrive bugs...)? Also any reliable and easy Carplay with ENET that you guys tried? |

If you use the Bimmercode app. I think you are able to revert the car back to stock. So I plan on doing that before going in for any service. Also as far as warranty concerned if your engine starts smoking for example the dealer will not use the fact that you used a OBD code tool to modify your radio unit in connection with your engine failure.

No, you can't code CarPlay with Bimmercode. Only by ENET cable (or USB, depending on your firmware).
I opted to code the CarPlay to full screen, but not to code it for lifetime CarPlay. From my understanding, there isn't much the service department would notice for the full screen CarPlay, but if you code it for a lifetime subscription, they could more easily detect it. I'm probably going to bite the bullet and give them $300 when my free year runs out. I do love the full scree CarPlay, though, and it's only going to be better with iOS 13. |

Other than that, which program did you use to code with Enet? |

Ah, ok. Sorry I didn’t realize you didn’t have CarPlay at all. kubax86 helped me with the coding. He might be able to guide you through what you might need.

I 'patched' it and fullscreen is way better than split screen IMO. If you take the BMW Map and make it split screen and then make it full screen again that added map screen real estate is what you're missing out on by not having fullscreen Carplay. I use Waze a lot and having the extra width made a huge difference. Other things like podcasts and such also use the full screen mode so they look much better (not squished). I'm on iOS 13 beta. That's a long way of saying that I highly recommend fullscreen carplay if you don't have it. |

I only did fullscreen. I was more concerned about doing lifetime CarPlay. I mentioned the person I bought mine from in an earlier post in this thread.

$300/20 years works out to $15 per year..That's right, $15 per YEAR. The subscription is NOT TRANSFERABLE to another lease or another vehicle, but they did tell me that at the end of my lease I could request a pro-rated refund for the UN-USED 18 years ($270).....Kind of annoying to pay $300 up front, for what ends up being a 2 year paid subscription @ $15/year. That being said, I couldn't bring myself to pay $160 for two years, so instead I will pay $30 for two years by going the (20- year, but with 18 years refunded), route. So annoying.

It's pretty unlikely that anyone will get 20 years out of a subscription, because the technology will change and what we have now will be obsolete and they'll drop support for it. 20 years ago my analog Motorola flip phone was the hottest mobile tech going, and the iPhone didn't exist ... heck, the IPod was still two years away.

Sounds like a line just to make him go away. "Could request," lol. I'd like to see what they say when you call them 10 years in and want half your money back! :-D |
