We all know that cars (generally) are NOT an investment, and when 1 MY is in production that another is right behind it. Therefore as soon as you buy it's outdated....the reality of how companies are 1 step ahead.

For me, I'm not so butt hurt about the increased HP in the 2020. In all honesty a tune would get me that and for cheaper 😊.

  • Higher Fuel Pressure
  • Single Timing Chain (instead of 2).

Some nay-sayers bawk and suggest these changes are to save $$ and downgrade the engine. I respectfully disagree. I'd rather have a lighter crank. Single timing chain is less weight and less friction. Many other changes too. You can imagine all the minor issues discovered after initial B58 release. They constantly refine to improve.

Good info! Thanks!

Wow I have a 2018 X3 M40i and this is crazy how the HP increased in over a year. Wonder if BMW can do anything to retune the older X3 M40is?

Giving us our M-sport steering wheels like we deserve would have been nice.

Yes the most basic thing was the steering wheel. Just because BMW logics had poor planning should not affect the customers. That was a huge disappointment. Mercedes probably would have made this mistake lol.

Guys, really. Numerous tunes will get even more HP than MY2020 brings.. and with big torque improvements. I prefer the JB4. Easy install. iPhone app. Different maps you can choose on the fly. 50+ HP & Torque.

https://burgertuning.com/products/b58-jb4

Lots of tune info if you search the forum.

What about a tuning box (non JB4) ?

There was one that adjusts injector duration as opposed to just increasing boost / fule rail pressure ... can't find it on the internet now though :-(

A remap easily increases the power to 400bhp but FASTA data mean your warranty is fried .... which is why I won't do it. Yet ...

Yes, a lot of us on this forum JUST bought our X3/X4's less than a year ago (perhaps even just a few weeks ago) and didn't know about the upcoming changes. If it makes you feel any better, some (like me) don't like the live cockpit and I doubt you can tell a .2 second difference 0-60. What would really make a noticeable difference is if they improved the throttle response (we'll have to see what the 2020 owners say about that).

Try not to think about it, and just enjoy your X4!

Don't get me wrong I am content with y 2018 X3 M40i and the current digital dash. Live cockpit not sure, it's too futuristic as I have owned a few BMWs and accustomed the traditional look. I got the lifetime apple car play which they charged 2019 and up.

I guess flashing the tuning can increase the HP. But wondering if the extra 30 plus hps make a difference.

Flash tuning and piggyback tuning (like JB4) make a BIG difference because they change a number of things, not just HP. Just ask the folks on here that have done it (I would love to but I'm afraid due to warranty concerns). There's a few threads in this forum on tuning that are very helpful.

If you had a remap and it lumped the extra torque right up as soon as it could then you would definitely feel it ! Whether it was power delivered as well as BMW can map is another matter - I have had numerous remaps over the years and stopped back in 2012 as I found all but one ruined the everyday driveability of the car compared to standard. More punch, less flexibility ... bar one map on a Golf GTi Edition 30 where the power came in after 4K and was awesome !

I'd really like to see someone do a back to back dyno of a MY '19 then a '20.

I drove the updated B58 in the new M340i and didn't feel any extra horses on the butt dyno at all. Felt weaker, in fact.

Is there a tune that just moves the torque curve left? I don't want to stress the transmission. Stock is already just under the maximum rating for that ZFHP850.

Totally fair and Valid that this is your opinion but it's worth noting this is not aligned with the majority of feedback on the new motor in the m340

It's funny, while waiting for my service to be done the other day, I also took a new M340i out for a test ride, and I agree, that it felt slower than the M40i. I did notice that the seats were certainly firmer than the M40i's. That's not good.
