Grinding noise at the rear left when starting

what is the name of the part(s) I should change?
My mechanic says I have to change the whole muffler.
But I see the part is attached to the muffler.
I took a picture of it.

Grinding noise comes at the rear left when starting.
When my car starts, there is a metal stick comes out, and it makes grinding noise intermittently.

Thank you!

Look here https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=18_0924

and https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=18_0923

Suggest you put the last 7 digits of car's VIN into this site to verify I've got the correct rear muffler, etc.

I looked for the part through the realoem but it doesn't look like the one in the picture.
My one in the pic is metal but the part I found through the realoem is plastic.
