Anyone ever get the dealer to fix “no signal” out of warranty?

So, wife’s X3 threw a “no signal” message today and iDrive is completely non-responsive. It’s a 2016 with 39k miles. After reading for hours today it seems like this is super common across all cars and BMW has completely washed their hands of repairs if the car is out of warranty? We’re out of warranty as of ~11m ago and I’m wondering if anyone has had any luck with the dealer helping them due to how common this problem is. Not really stoked to be looking for a replacement when it’s likely to happen again and again.

Planning to take the dash apart tomorrow and cross my fingers it’s a cable, but expecting the worst.

What did your research show the fix was?

Seems like nearly always full head unit replacement. Some people had gone through as many as 5 during the life of their vehicles. Been happening for 13+ years at all different mileages. Pretty insane that these units are so disposable.

I've had it do it a few times over the years. Probably less than once/year so I've never brought it up. When I was under warranty I assumed it wouldn't reproduce.

Some dealers will do a good faith discount but it's usually w/ issues closer to the warranty exp date than that. Though you could maybe use this as a chance to upgrade the head unit?

Looks like I’m just going to send to Bavlogic to fix. $600 + shipping and fingers crossed.

hopefully there’s no issues driving without a head unit or screen. I’m not sure why there would be.

Had that one time on my X3 during its first year. All it took was a reflash with the current software.
